"Fixing the weaker Totem Pokemon"
Some of the Totem Pokemon is Sun and Moon just don't live up to the hype, and I think that warrants fixing. So here's how I propose that could be done. Of course, in the wake of USUM having some new Totems, this is kind of obsolete, but I think it's still fun to theorise.I consider the stronger Totem Pokemon to be Wishiwashi, Lurantis, and Mimikyu. I'll also allow Gumshoos/Raticate to slide, since they're the first Totems. This discussion will look at Salazzle, Vikavolt, and Kommo-o.SalazzleLv 22Hold: Petaya BerryTormentVenom DrenchToxicFlame Burst+1 Speed Helper: SalanditLv 20Poison GasVenoshockTauntScratch Analysis:This one is just all off. Salazzle is your standard glass cannon, fast and strong with terrible defenses. Here, though, they've given it a status-based moveset with only one damaging move. Petaya Berry is of limited use, considering Salazzle will often just get wiped. Meanwhile, Venoshock has inexplicably been relegated to Salandit. It also gets Poison Gas which interferes with Salazzle's Toxic.Fixes:New strategy: use fast and strong Venoshocks on poisoned opponents.Make Salandit more of a supporter. Replace Poison Gas with Toxic, replace Scratch with Venom Drench. For the totem boost, raise Salazzle's Speed or Special Attack.Salazzle will now be mostly attacking. Replace Torment with Protect, so it can survive the first turn (possibly wasting a Z-move) while Salandit uses Toxic. Replace Venom Drench with Venoshock.Optionally, replace the Petaya Berry. Air Balloon would be pretty funny. Focus Sash could work, since Salazzle can be one-shotted by a lot of things. VikavoltLv 29Hold: Occa BerryVice GripChargeBug BiteSpark+1 all stats Helper: CharjabugLv 27String ShotVice GripMud-SlapThunder Wave Analysis:Vikavolt only has physical moves. What the actual fuck. Not only are we running off Vikavolt's significantly lower Attack, we also waste the synergy from Charjabug's Battery ability, which raises Special Attack. Seriously, what were they thinking...Fixes:Strategy: Vikavolt is going to be overpowering with Special Attacks, while Charjabug supports to overcome Vikavolt's low Speed.Moveset revamp for Vikavolt: Air Slash, Charge, Bug Buzz, Discharge/Thunderbolt. I prefer Discharge, since Thunderbolt seems a bit excessive. Charjabug can tank it, anyway. No change to Charjabug's moveset. Kommo-OLv 45Hold: Mental HerbClanging ScalesSky UppercutFlash CannonProtect+1 all stats Helper: ScizorLv 32Metal ClawPursuitLeerFury Cutter Helper: Hakamo-oLv 32Sky UppercutAutotomizeWork UpBide Analysis:This is not what a final trial is supposed to look like. Seriously... The helpers are complete garbage - at level 32 (that's gotta be a programming error, surely?), they're lower leveled than the previous totem, Mimikyu, and that trial happened before the story took you to the big climax at Aether Paradise. They also have silly movesets, including Bide on Hakamo-o, AKA "don't worry about me, just fight the totem". Even Kommo-o, at level 45, is barely stronger than the wild Pokemon you've just fought. It also holds a very situational Mental Herb. The strategy for the fight seems to be purely overpowering you with a pseudolegendary, but at those levels, it just falls flat.Fixes:New strategy: Dragon Dance boosting. Scizor/Hakamo-o play support and supplementary damage roles.Raise Kommo-o to level 50.Kommo-o: replace Protect with Dragon Dance. Replace Flash Cannon with Poison Jab (for Fairies), Rock Slide (for Ice and Flying types especially), or Dragon Claw (for a physical Dragon move).Raise the helpers' levels to 45.Moveset revamp for Scizor: Swords Dance, X-Scissor, Bullet Punch, Iron Head. With Scizor as the partner, the fight should truly feel like a 2v1. Some parties might actually have more to worry about from Scizor.Moveset revamp for Hakamo-o: Noble Roar, Dragon Claw, Sky Uppercut, Autotomize. If Hakamo-o is called, it uses Autotomize followed by Noble Roar to weaken your Pokemon before they can get at Kommo-o.Replace the Mental Herb. Options include Roseli Berry to tank a Fairy move, or Leftovers for general endurance. If we're being extra evil, raise all stats by +2 instead. Hey, it's the final trial. If we do that, we might forgo the Dragon Dance strategy for pure attacking. Thoughts? Have I gone overboard? via /r/pokemon http://ift.tt/2ye6q8o
