"[Megathread] Pokémon GO at Viva Calle San Jose - The official event thread"

#PokemonGO: Greetings travelers! The time has come for some Pokémon GO goodness at the Viva Calle San Jose event this Sunday, September 17th. I've assembled this post* in the hopes that it serves as a one-stop shop for all your event info needs. I'll do my best to keep this updated as we get closer to the event.Enjoy, and see you on the streets of San Jose! * A big thanks goes out to our tireless moderators for their help in this process. Thank you!  POKEMON INFO (What everyone really cares about)SPAWNThere will be an increased spawn of all Kanto and Johto starter pokemon, as well as Pikachu, Larvitar, and Lapras, along the event route. (Confirmed: source)Region-specific pokemon will not appear at this event. (Confirmed: source) (Note: Tauros will likely still appear as normal, uncommon background spawn.)It is reasonable to assume that Unown also will not appear at this event as there has been no specific mention of them.Speculation: The special spawn is described as appearing on "the day of the event" (source), which may mean it will begin late in the evening of Saturday, September 16th. GYMS & POKESTOPSTemporary gyms and pokestops will appear "across the Viva CalleSJ route", which will be "centralized in Japantown, St. James Park, Mexican Heritage Plaza, and Lake Cunningham Park." (Confirmed: source) UPDATE: Event gyms are now live! (Credit to /u/hibryd)Many (but not all) pokestops along the route will be lured. (Confirmed: source)Note: The 25 gyms and 130+ pokestops mentioned here already exist and are not specific to this event. It is not known exactly how many temporary gyms and pokestops will appear, but we do know that they will be in addition to the existing gyms and pokestops. (For reference: Ingress intel map of San Jose)NEW INFO: There will be two "Sprint Gym Battles" in San Jose from 12pm-5pm PDT on September 17th, near-ish to the event route. One is located at 2710 McKee Road, and the other is at 2080 Tully Road. (Confirmed: source) (Credit to /u/justchen563 and /u/natureruler)A total of ten $50 Amazon gift cards will be given away, five cards at each of the two Sprint Gym Battles. From the official rules: At the conclusion of the Gym Battle, five winners will be randomly selected from all registered participants who are members of the team that owns the gym at the end of the event window. (Credit to /u/DeletedUsernameTaken) OTHER ACTIVITIESAmbassadors along the event route can be asked for a "Golden Raid Pass" which can be turned in at one of the event hubs (Japantown, St. James Park, Mexican Heritage Plaza, and Lake Cunningham Park) for a chance to win a tour of Niantic’s San Francisco Office. The first 1,000 trainers to turn in a Golden Raid Pass to each of the four hubs will receive a "unique freebie". (Confirmed: source)Note: Each of the event hubs will feature an info tent for the Pokémon GO integration, social media context, and other programmed activities.  EVENT DETAILS (Stuff you should know)DATE AND TIMEViva Calle San Jose will take place 10am-3pm PDT (UTC-7) on Sunday, September 17th. LOCATIONThe route map can be viewed here. WHAT IS IT, A BIKE RACE OR SOMETHING?It’s not a race, and you don’t need a bike to participate. You can walk or skate. You can walk, skate, or bike. COSTIt's free. Win! Just show up and enjoy.  LOCAL AREA INFO (The practical bits)PARKINGPer the Viva CalleSJ website: "Due to road closures that will be in effect for Viva CalleSJ, vehicle traffic may be impacted and parking restricted. We encourage you to take VTA."If you insist on attempting to park near downtown... Your best bet is to get there early and look for neighborhood parking around the downtown grid and/or SJ State.Additional parking information is available at ParkSJ.org.All-day parking at Lake Cunningham is $6. FOOD & DRINKFree water will be available at hydration stations at Activity Hubs along the route. It is recommend to bring your own water bottle to fill up. (source)San Pedro Square Market is a great place to grab a bite. There are lots of options, and it's right on the event route... which probably means it will be crowded.
