"The "After 8 Hours" Defender Tier List"
#PokemonGO: One criticism of the Defender Tier List update that I found to be interesting was me being unaware of the motivation decay curve. u/vlfph hooked me up with this post going over it.I honestly thought it was changed to a flat 10% for all Pokemon, and it would appear that way because the decreased rate isn't significant until you drop under ~2100cp. After some deliberation, I found that these findings don't really alter the current Defender Tier List but it does give rise to a different, "After 8 Hours" type of Defender Tier List.Chansey 1000-1500Azumarill 1000-1500, Steelix 1000-1500Chansey<1000, Blissey 0ATK IV 1000-1500Blissey 1000-1500ChanseyIt goes without saying that Chansey is the MVP after 8 hours. A fresh hatch Chansey is ready to rock at roughly 800-900cp, but if you look above you'll find Chansey rocking a slightly lower tier at <1000cp. Should you power up Chansey? Having at least 1 beastly Chansey is solid. Outside of this "gimmick", it is still S tier in the "all-purpose/daytime" defender tier list.AzumarillNow here's 1 Pokemon that I may have overlooked for the general Defender Tier List. It does Clefable's Fairy-type thing, but also packs a Water sub-typing to harass Fire-types (while also inviting Electric and Grass-type counters). Its low CP cap (it won't even reach 1500) makes it a natural choice for this type of tier list. The jury is still out on where to put this bunny on the general Tier List (probably C d/t weaknesses), but for after 8 hours? You'll want this over Wobbuffet. Moveset? I'd recommend Bubble + Play Rough or Ice Beam.SteelixThis Pokemon is a literal monster on defense. If you're not attacking it with a Fighting, Water, or Fire-type you're going to have a bad time. It comes to no surprise that this A tier gym defender would find itself in the higher rungs of this tier list. Hatch an Onix? Evolve it and you're basically set!BlisseyAs if having half of her max CP would hold this Goddess down. I think this motivation decay situation is a nice parallel to the eviolite situation in the console games. While Blissey is > Chansey in most situations, welcome to one where it isn't.Attack IVs?Just to satisfy the argument, I looked into a 0 Attack IV Blissey and it does perform noticeably better than a perfect one for this sort've situation. It is likely that all featured defenders will have marginal benefits from having lower Attack IV's, but I wouldn't worry about it.Where's Wobbuffet???While it does have the low CP high HP thing going for it, Wobbuffet is entirely nonthreatening and benign on defense. Its "time only" ranking is beneath Blissey and any combination of time and damage at any weight just brought it down further. That said, this Tier List only features 4 Pokemon. You may as well drop it in if the other 4 are already in there ;)Why <1500 CP?1500 is the decay tier for a defender to take 3 "losses" to get knocked out after 8 hours. ~1500-2100 takes 2 "losses" to get knocked out. Anything above that will take 1. You'd think that this would still make 2100 still meaningful in some way, but after 8 hours a 1500cp Pokemon and a 2100cp Pokemon will have roughly the same cp, it's just one will take 3 losses to knock out and the other 2 losses. For this reason, 2100cp Steelix and Blissey did not make the grade. Please take note that these CP ranges aren't needle point and being slightly below 1500, even 1400 could help solidify your results. If you think your defenders will be up for more than 8 hours, the more you go below 1500 the better. 1000cp and less, for example, will keep you at the "2 losses" tier for over 24 hours, for what it's worth. That said, everyone but Chansey's performance heavily homogenizes at that point. The Fairy "Gimmick"Clefairy, Wigglytuff, and Togetic are all also decent options that scored below Blissey. I would have included them, but you can only feature so many Fairy's in a gym before people catch on and start preparing for them. That said, this Tier List only features 4 Pokemon, so you may as well include another Fairy if it pleases you.Ditto???Ditto can be useful in a very gimmicky way. If you include it after Steelix or a Fairy it could bring in a mirrored match up with a Water, Electric, Poison, or Steel-type Pokemon which is a bit of a headache. However, if it morphs into Machamp, Dragonite, or SB Mewtwo it's pretty harmless.Other PokemonAt 1500cp, the performance of most Pokemon heavily homogenize. When you work in that after 8 hours they will all be roughly 1000cp, they homogenize even further. Only the noted 4, maybe Wobbuffet, and maybe Ditto will offer any sort've extra protection imo.Fun FactMiltank and Snorlax have relatively identical performances when at same CP, assuming Zen Headbutt and Body Spam. via /r/TheSilphRoad http://ift.tt/2yHiDzd
