"What makes a Pokémon look like a Pokémon?"

I've seen this mentioned a few times recently particularly since UBs were revealed and how they don't look like Pokémon. (For the sake of this discussion let's say that UBs are definitely Pokémon since they have Pokédex entries)But what characteristics do you think make a design look like it's a Pokémon over say a digimon?
