"How good are the Gen 3 Ghosts really? [Analysis]"
#PokemonGO: The hype train has left the station and we now have (implicit) confirmation that Shuppet, Banette, Duskull, Dusclops, and Sableye are being introduced to Pokemon GO over the Halloween event. You may be wondering how these Pokemon may impact the meta. I did a video on the subject earlier today over a study break, and now I'm bringing you all a post on it over my next study break. ;)TL;DR They're hot garbageBanetteThere is some hope here in Banette being a good attacker. It has the highest attack stat of all pure Ghost-type Pokemon, suggesting it can take on Psychic-types without a Poison sub-typing holding it back. Running simulations on Haunter (who has a comparable attack stat) in Pokebattler, it is found that Haunter isn't all too hot, even with Shadow Claw, suggesting Banette may not be as good either. We will have to see what actually happens when Banette actually drops so we can get more accurate data, since Haunter doesn't reflect Banette's bulk or typing perfectly (or wait and see what the sims say when u/Celandro actually adds Banette to Pokebattler haha). As far as defense goes, its bulk is less than Misdreavus' which..well, I'll let you figure out what that means for Banette on defense :^)DusclopsOne thing that sets Dusclops apart from all other Ghost-type Pokemon is its massive 234 defense stat. While this suggests Dusclops will be a boss on defense, its 80 stamina suggests otherwise. Another Pokemon that has a huge defense stat but low stamina is Onix, which we all know isn't exactly a pro defender. It's a real shame since Dusclops and its evolution Dusknoir are some of my favs. If there are any Pokemon that'd benefit from a stamina re-balance, the Dusclops family is among them. There may be some hope for Dusclops on an "after 8 hours" type of defense scale since its max CP is 1335. Running some spot simulations on it (using Mr. Mime who has surprisingly similar bulk) shows that having an 80 stamina stat really does hold it back on defense, even here. Dusclops won't be a terrible Pokemon for this type of strategy, but it definitely isn't anything like Azumarill.SableyeYou'd think I was saving the best for last but, no, no I wasn't. Sableye's base stats suggest that it is all around bad. All of its stats are less than Misdreavus', who, if you're unaware, has absolutely no impact on the offensive or defensive meta. While having no weaknesses 1 weakness suggests it could be a safe bet on defense, it really doesn't have the bulk to back it up. There may be some hope for Sableye in the deep future with mega evoltuons, and the addition of abilities could give it a buff, but I don't expect anything too impressive from Sableye other than looking nice in my Pokedex.ConclusionI am definitely hyped for Gen 3 and the new dex entries, just don't expect our new friends to be making big waves in the meta. As far as expecting a full Gen 3 release goes, we got Gen 2 babies in December and Gen 2 in February. I think it's safe to assume we'll see a full Gen 3 sometime around December or January. If you want to compare Gen 3 stats to Pokemon we currently have, GamePress has them added to their list page. If you're curious how other Gen 3 Pokemon compare in the meta, I did a Gen 3 comparison video on that a while back. via /r/TheSilphRoad http://ift.tt/2wWEOjN
