When it came out on the gameboy, it was just a little bit after his time. The marketing was aimed at a much younger audience by that point! So, I figured it would be really fun for him and I to play Pokemon Blue on an emulator. He is in his mid thirties, going in completely blind. We'll see if the game holds up!We play it and the first thing he does is revert to a childlike state. He names the rival "Douche". I proudly show him this comic and his joy it replete.He has no idea that the pokemon are going to evolve. I can't describe my vicarious delight when we finally turned Magikarp into Gyarados! For me, the surprise had been ruined by the cartoon, but he'd spent the better part of an hour joking about how much Magikarp sucks and had no idea that there would be a sweet dragon reward. Needless to say, Gyarados stayed in the team, haha! Similar story with Nidoking. When we evolved him, his words were "Fuck yeah! It's a cool godzilla!" Whenever Nidoking used a physical move, he'd say "Nidoking SMASH!"We're not finished the file yet. I'm looking forward to his reactions to the legendary birds, as well as Mewtwo.
