"We did a 6km PoGo Halloween-walk for young and old in Waregem, Belgium => it was awesome"
#PokemonGO: Hi,Yesterday together with a partner in crime we organized our first ever Pokémon GO event in a small city in Belgium, Waregem. It was announced even before the official Gen 3 confirmation from Niantic as we were already expecting a Halloween event, a special Pikachu and Raikou in Europe on the first of November. Everything came through so the event had everything we promised from early on, here's my report of it.The event kicked of at 14:00 in the afternoon with a Lure party at our car-free meet-up spot. 3 stops and a gym were within our Lure parameters and a pretty fast our spot was swarming with players. By swarming I'm talking about Belgian proportions. We had 80+ people coming to play and walk with us, which was way more than we expected. People drove over an hour to be here. Again, in Belgium, that's pretty insane for a 'not anything guaranteed-event'. We had 3 contest running: Best costume, best AR-picture (contest still running) and we added a 5 euro game-credit for the first caught shiny. Our group picture: http://ift.tt/2z7JXHD some explanation and handing out our route for reference, we started our walk at 15:00 passing by the 20 Pokéstops/Gym we had in our little city (yes, we can use a hell of a lot more). I'm glad some people decided to help us out when we were crossing roads, because running from the back of the pack, back up front was pretty long. It took more than a minute for everyone to pass one spot. At a slow walking pace, we hit our first break place at 16:50 where we had a surprise Halloween candy package for all kids. All were gone in just a few seconds, fortunately we didn't have to disappoint anyone. There was also the possibility for a few drinks here.At that point no shiny was seen or caught. Once we started walking again I went up to the one kid (10 years old) that had become a Pokémon GO trainer just that day as his dad had decided to give him the surprise of a lifetime. While we were talking he goes "Oh, what's this?". Low and behold, A SHINY DUSKULL! I immediately yelled it out for the whole group. He made a fast straight throw, no berries, just a Pokéball, but he caught it immediately. The group was buzzing and I took the kid up front for other young folks to see it. By the time he had already evolved it into a 17cp Dusclops, our hero of the day was already known.Unfortunately for us, no lvl 5 raid eggs decided to pop along the way, we hadn't even passed an open raid yet, when the news started spreading a lvl 4 egg had popped up at our final destination. I tried to temper the hopes of a Tyranitar, but could promise everyone we would raid that day. But of course, you always hope for the best.We made it to the end of the walk with everyone, all kids did so good, but we saw that 6km was the absolute max for them. It had already started going dark when the raid egg had 2 minutes left. Everyone counted down the last 10 seconds and yes, as if Pokémon gods really do exist, TYRANITAR!The screams gave me chills! Especially the kids were so hyped. My partner in crime immediately called "RED GROUP', I shouted "BLUE GROUP" and our 2 dressed up Pikachu's were "YELLOW GROUP". It went so smooth and we had to control ourselves not to dive in immediately. We had to splits our own Blue group up in two, where we divided 4 30+ players in each group. Tyranitar went down fast and the yells of excitement (and a little bit disappointment) returned for all caught Tyranitar. We had foreseen another hour of Lure-party, but you could see the Tyranitar raid was the perfect finisher for the event. We had a little lightning stick for all kids left we decided to pass out and everyone departed with a smile on their face. Our 2 Pikachu's costumes won the 3 Pokémon booster packs and our AR contest which is still running, will get someone a Pokémon DS-game to remember the awesome day of Pokémon GO.I've sent some reports to local newspapers, decided to thank the city to let us do this and hope that we can do something like this again in the future. It was just awesome! I'm still buzzing and we're already the next day :). via /r/pokemongo http://ift.tt/2h6nbez
