"Advanced Gym Mechanisms and Techniques"

#PokemonGO: I write this post to inform all other travelers of the hidden gym mechanisms and techniques avaliable. Some of them might be well known while the last few are rather hidden, and abusive, to some extent. I have been warned to keep them private but I have found the gym rather stagnant and prefer if everyone knows of these techniques and their pros and cons. Feel free to add more to this list.1. Berries per monsterThere is a hard limit of berrying 10 times, regardless of the type of berry, per monster per 30 minutes. The 30 minutes counter starts at the first berry and the remaining 9 do not change the timer. Once the first 30 minutes are up, the counter reset when the player berries again.2. a max of 10 monsters to be berriedThere is also a hard limit of berrying 10 different monsters across all gyms per 30 minutes. Ex. if you placed one berry each in a full gym of 6 mons, you may only berry 4 different mons in the next gym. The counter works the same way as above and they are two distinct time counters.3. 10 minutes after first mon dies to put a new defender inAssuming a full gym of 6 defenders. When the 1st mon dies, regardless of placement, there is a 10 minute counter that prevents anyone from immediately putting a new defender in. Like above, the timer does NOT reset or increase when another monster dies. Once the 10 minutes are up, a defender can place a new mon in.Now assume a full gym of 6 with 2 killed. If after the 10 minute is up, trainer A puts in a mon, and then another monster dies, the 10 minute counter is started again and no other defenders can place a mon even though there are empty spaces. Now let's dive into the advance techniques4. synchronized attacksThis is the ultimate method of attacking a gym with berryful defenders. If done correctly, this method can one hit a full heart monster leaving no chance for the defenders to berry. In the example below, I shall use 3 attackers on 3 different phones/tablets but it can be done with 2 with a semi full heart also. The three attackers are denoted A, B and C.First, ABC enters the battle. When the attacker counter at the battle screen shows 3, BC leaves the battle immediately. A stays in the battle (battle 1).BC enter the gym and attack. BC should enter a new round of battle (battle 2).Once the attacker counter shows 2, C leaves the battle. B stays.C enters the gym and attack. C should enter a new round of battle (battle 3).Time ABC correct so that the final hit of the 3 battles are within a few seconds of each other (max 3 seconds). If done correctly, the heart should fall from a full heart to 0.Note This will be difficult against a 3200 blissey but doable with only 3 attackers of all maxed machamps. This trick will fail if there are other attackers in the gym. It will mess up the time synchronization. Further, you may use more than 3 attackers and have multiple attackers in A B or C team. Usually, it is best to have more attackers in later teams to speed up the process and not have A team wait too long, to prevent timeout.5. perfect sniperSniping is bad and that point is settled. However, there are times when one needs to snipe an empty gym spot. For example, there is a full gym of 6 of your color at the highly contested spot and one monster dies. There will be an empty spot and many ppl trying to snipe it.Assuming u know the minute the monster is killed, you will know the time the 10 minute counter is up and put in your own monster. To put in a defender is annoying. You press the "place defender" button at the bottom right, choose a monster, and click OK at the center. However, there is trick so that you don't need to press 3 buttons to place a monster.Within the 10 minutes counter, click the place defender button and choose a monster. When the pop up to click OK shows up, leave the app in the background by pressing home. After that, return to the app and non stop click OK. The OK popup will not disappear and you can click on OK forever. It won't go away even after you place a mon. There will be random error messages that appear when you press OK but you can simply ignore them. When you successful place a monster, you can get three consecutive error messages and that would be your sign that the trick worked. To be more safe, have a friend look at the gym for you and see if you have successful placed a mon. This trick is so convenient and can usually beat all other bystander snipers around.6. Targeted SnipingAgain, sniping is bad and not recommended. This trick allows you to snipe any monster of your choice regardless of its position in the gym.Ex. there is a gym with monster, ABCDEF in that order. Without a doubt, A will be a blissey. Let say you want to kill D and not have to do attack ABCD, attack ABCD berry ABC and then attack ABCD.The way to do this is simple. Have three attackers on three phones, player 1, player 2 and player 3.Player 123 will enter the battle together and beat ABC. After C is defeated, player 1 continues normally. Player 2 and 3 click the home button and WAIT. After player 1 defeats D, Player 2 resumes the game and enters battle with D. Defeat D. Then Player 3 resumes the game and enters battle with D. D should be killed at this point. To explain further the timing of clicking home to leave the game: you may exit the game at anytime during the 9 seconds to continue to next battle. You may exit the game during the screen with defender on top and yourself at the bottom. Once the screen changes to battle screen even before the GO appear, you're too late and the sever considers you entered the battle with the first player.7. Bait and SwitchThis is not as abusive and follows from the synchronized attack above. If you only have 1 phone and fighting a gym at a contested area, you may not be the battle winner even if the gym falls completely. To gaurantee a spot as a battle winner, you MUST be one of the attackers the kill the 6th monster's final battle.Assume there are 6 defenders at the gym ABCDEF and there are numerous bystanders 2 and 3 (you are 1).Normal battle occurs and A is dead, B is dead and so on until E is killed. F is the only defender left at full health.1 enters the battle and sees 23 there battling. Do normally and defeat F. (F has 2/3 health left)1 now enters the battle and again sees 23 there battling. At this point, LEAVE THE BATTLE IMMEDIATELY and enters a new battle. You would be the only one there killing. 23 would defeat F from 2/3 to 1/3 and you would be all alone defeating 1/3 to 0, making u the battle winner.Of course, there is chance that 23 finishes the battle too soon and enters the final battle with you so be quick.Additions8. Back button (Android ONLY) (credits to u/skydiver2021)There are two instances when you can press the back button to speed up some animations. The first one is the screen with defender on top and yourself at the bottom before the actual battle. Skipping that usually saves a few seconds (3-4 seconds), sometimes enough to outrun the other attackers on iOS.The second skippable animation is the white "all defenders defeated" screen. This is the screen that shows up when the last defend dies. Clicking back at this white screen return you to the map 2-3 seconds quicker. This is especially helpful if you are competing with several other battle winners.9. Decreasing motivation by fleeing (credits to u/sts_ssp)Pretty much useless for high level players, but it should be noted that losing or fleeing still takes out 1.6% motivation of the defender. So, a low level player who is timing out against a 3200 Blissey can still bring her down to a more manageable 2700-2900 range by entering the fight and fleeing multiple times. Of course if it's a gym actively golden razzed, that won't help him much.Feel free to ask questions on how to execute these and the timing thereof if I did not explain fully. I know some of these tricks can be abusive but they are indeed in the game and used quite often by many player. They are very useful in highly contested high areas.I am too lazy to do video illustrations of each of these but if there are players out there who wishes to, feel free. via /r/TheSilphRoad http://ift.tt/2Fm2m68
