"Non-Legendary Gen 3 Pokemon worth your dust (It's a short list)"
#PokemonGO: I've seen a few posts from people wondering which Gen 3 Pokemon they should be leveling up. Unless you are swimming in dust, the list of non-legendary, useful Gen 3 Pokemon that deserve investment is pretty small.Pokemon worth powering upGardevoir - A top fairy type Pokemon that will be useful for various dragon-type raids. Unfortunately lacks a fairy type quick move, but that will probably eventually get changed in a moveset shake-up. And it still hits dragons for SE damage with Dazzling Gleam while double-resisting dragon-type attacks.Metagross - Tyranitar-tier stats without a double weakness means this is the third toughest Pokemon to leave in a gym after Blissey and Snorlax. He's also the game's best steel-type attacker, and his double resistance to psychic attacks makes him a solid choice in several upcoming raids. On the bubbleSalamence - This Pokemon has pseudo legendary stats, but as a dragon/flying type, it is not well-differentiated from the very similar Dragonite and Rayquaza. His charge move is the single bar Draco Meteor, which deals very high damage, especially with Salamence's monster attack stat. But he might not live long enough to fire that off against a dragon-type raid boss. Probably worth your dust eventually, but lower priority than Metagross, for sure.Hariyama - This fighting-type is a lot like Machamp, but with stats that are tilted a little more defensively, which is a bit less desirable for an attacker. If you get a great one, or you want a little variety it's fine to power up, but Machamp is probably a little better.Sceptile - This is an excellent grass attacker, and unlike comparable Exeggutor, it isn't reliant on the slow-firing, single bar Solar Beam. He shines as a raid attacker vs Groudon and Kyogre, but Groudon is already done for a while, and Kyogre is only around a couple more weeks. Once that's over, he is likely to see a lot less use.Not good enoughSwampert - Everybody likes Mudkip, but this water/ground type isn't the best at anything it does. As an attacker, there are two demonstably superior legendary alternatives for both his types, and some superior non-legendary alternatives as well. As a gym defender, he's ruined by a double-weakness to grass.Blaziken - This fire/fighting type is pretty great in the main series, but doesn't translate well to Go. As a fire attacker, he's a little worse than several legendary fire spin/overheat users, like Moltres and Entei. As a fighting-type, he doesn't have enough of a damage edge over Machamp to make up for how much more fragile he is. His fire typing means he does not take SE damage from Blissey's Dazzling Gleam, but he is still vulnerable to Zen Headbutt, and his general frailness means he isn't really a superior counter to the bulky normals commonly seen in gyms.Milotic - The simple mechanics of Go's combat means that many Pokemon of the same type aren't very well differentiated. As a defender, this Pokemon is a lot like Vaporeon with a water set. With a Dragon Tail/Blizzard set, Milotic can fight off a grass-type that would counter Vaporeon, or stop a sweeping generalist dragon that would resist water types. This makes it one of Gen 3's strongest defenders. But the current gym meta doesn't really encourage powering up defenders, and even for dedicated gym defenders, another Blissey or Snorlax is probably a better dust investment, and Feebas candy isn't even that much more common than Chansey or Snorlax candy. As an attacker, Milotic is like a slightly worse Vaporeon, and Vaporeon is now outclassed by Gyarados. And Gyarados is eclipsed by Kyogre. This guy goes with Suicune as a pretty, swaggy water type that has a limited role in battles.Dust trapsSlaking - The highest CP in the game is tempting, but his quick attack, Yawn, deals zero damage, and generates energy slowly. If you max him out, he might hit a Machamp with Play Rough once, if they attack the gym when he's at full strength. On a second run through the gym, or if motivation is decayed, Machamp will kill him before he fires a charge move. This is not a good Pokemon.Aggron - Looks like a tank, but double weak to Fighting and Ground. Machamp, the most common gym attacker, will tear through this Steel/Rock defender as fast as he tears through Tyranitar. Aggron will never live long enough to use his Stone Edge. via /r/TheSilphRoad http://ift.tt/2ni8Bk0
