"Celebi task timing mechanics: collecting evidence"

#PokemonGO: The Celebi tasks that require certain actions X days in a row (e.g. Catch a Pokémon 3 days in a row) seem to operate on a slightly different mechanic than the other daily streak/reward features. There are several reports of people being unable to use the timezone method. In these cases, catching a pokemon after changing timezone grants the 1st catch of the day streak progression, but the Celebi task does not progress along with it.One thought was that maybe the quest runs on a countdown timer, but again people report not getting progress even 24 hours after their first catch. It's doesn't seem to be an independent global clock either, since a single unified roll-over time would've been noticed immediately. Also, there are numerous report that the Go Plus seems to operate and progress the quests based on its own timezone for this (some think UTC), so that Go Plus catches sometimes result in progressing the task one extra day ahead, or not counting depending.I ran some tests to try and figure this whole thing out and might've got something. After getting the first day logged yesterday while set to automatic local time, changing timezones and catching did not progress as others reported. Waiting till after local midnight and catching, while timezone remained changed, did also not progress the quest, and neither did waiting until over 12 hours had passed since the first catch. What did allow me to progress the quest was changing my timezone back to automatic. So I have 2 working theories that I would appreciate if people could test:1) The Celebi quest logs what timezone you had set when you got the first progression of the X days in a row quest and will only allow further progress while the same timezone is set.2) The Celebi quest only allows progress if your timezone is set to automatic (or maybe at least matches that of your location). If it's the 2nd one, it might be possible to circumvent the anti-timetravel measures by catching a research reward pokemon with location disabled. There also might be differences in how this all works based on Android vs IOS (including versions), as well as location/wifi/data settings. I also can't figure out why the Go Plus seems to run on it's own time regardless of location for this quest specifically but not other streaks.Thoughts? Other theories?UPDATE LOG:Multiple detailed accounts confirm: the Go+ for some reason runs on UTC, which might have implications for your gaming experience depending on where you liveEven without the Go+ or timezone adjustments, the counter seems to "get stuck" for some people for no clear reason. Restarting, along with clearing cache seems to fix this.Experiment result: changing timezone, clearing the cache and restarting the app with location disabled (might not be strictly nessecary) during startup seems to allow for time(zone) travel to resume. (Chances of retribution from the Green Guardian of Time as of yet unknown).Varying accounts of how difficult it is for the quest to accept the currently set timezone. For some it works upon restart, others need to clear cache, and some seem to be stuck regardless.Current working theory: the game seems to log your timezone in its cache to keep track of celebi quest progression. Said cached timezone does not always refresh with a simple restart, and in some cases seems to bug out as to prevent progression. Clearing cache seems to work in most cases, but not always. The go+ runs on UTC and its catches bypass/update this cache, letting some skip ahead in time, sometimes causing the glitch that locks out further progression, but sometimes also fixing it. System be buggy as all get out. via /r/TheSilphRoad https://ift.tt/2LfCwTi
