"PvP Tip: Open up your match with a pokemon that has a single weakness"
#PokemonGO: Most of PvP seems to come down to the randomness of the first pokemon chosen. If you loose that type advantage you're forced to switch and if you're opponent has decent coverage, they lock you into certain death or loss of shields. You can prevent this by opening up with a pokemon with as little weaknesses as possible, so you're least likely to draw the short end of the stick. For example you open up with Scizor. The only way you loose the match-up and are forced to switch is if you're opponent opens up with a Fire type. Which is only one type out of 18, or 5.5%. And Scizor resists 9 types, which is a coin flip victory in your favour. And if you're opponent switches into a fire type, you flip out into a water/rock/ground type you have selected, because you're already prepared for this situation, and you're opponents locked in. And maybe you smart and you analyzed the meta and know the most common fire-types are also flying, so you have a rock typed prepared, and are hitting them for 4x damage. Opponents basically down a pokemon, because you're killing them with your fast ATK, and you can save up for charge move and fire it instantly on the next pokemon, maybe multiple times. Then fill you're third slot with a tank that has decent coverage, like Lugia. The double weakness doesn't matter much as long as force your opponent to swith out and have a well built team with a counter. This works far more efficiently then if you lost a type match-up to begin, let's say you opened up with Meganium or Venusaur. Staples in the meta but they have 5/4 weaknesses. Your opponents opens up with let's say Mewtwo and you're forced to switch out and pick Scizor. If you're opponents got a fire type then its going in, and you're in the opposite position.A few example of good openers: Lanturn, Skuntank, Fortress, Alolan Muk, Swampert, Electric and Normal types (althought they can loose match-ups due to resistances, eg. Electric vs. Grass), and Gyarados isn't a bad option either because he can cover any Rock opponents with Water attacks, and most people aren't opening with an electric type. via /r/TheSilphRoad http://bit.ly/2Aj3oiE
