"Someone tried to steal my friend's account and the new trainer problem"

#PokemonGO: To start, I'm sorry if this breaks any posting rules. I looked through them and it seemed like it would be alright.Someone tried to steal my friend's account yesterday. My friend is a level 40 instinct player who has been playing since 2016. He started having issues when we were trying to hit raids yesterday and ended up being unable to play. Looking at our friends lists, his nickname got changed to "mynewaccount".He changed his passwords and, when trying to log in again, got the new trainer problem where it takes you to the professor as if you are a new player. We tried uninstalling, changing permission settings, clearing all app data, etc. and nothing helped. He emailed Niantic and they told him that there wasn't an account associated with that email. He sent back the screenshot I gave him of the new IGN and a screenshot of the email from his last coin purchase. We're currently waiting for another reply from Niantic.Is there anything else we/he can do? Is he likely to get his account back?Edit: He has an android phone, uses google account log in, and his email is through Yahoo if that matters at all.Edit 2: A commenter made me remember that he got a security notification of someone trying to log onto his account from a new device around the time his pogo account was having gameplay issues.
