"[Theory]: Shedinja is the ONLY ghost Pokémon."

Ghost types are not dead people or Pokémon. Rather, over the years, they've sort of gotten themselves into in a "Absol situation." Where Absol can detect and are drawn to areas where natural disasters are about to occur, ghost-types are wild Pokémon that have a sort of sixth sense when it comes to the supernatural--kind of like people say that dogs do. We know that the Pokemon world has spirits that are not Pokémon thanks to Pokédex entries for Chandelure, Dusknoir, and the ghost of Marowak being an actual ghost and not a ghost-type Pokémon . This sixth sense enables ghost types to manifest this spiritual energy to alter their biology and perform attacks--it also increases their natural lifespan (via feeding on true spirits) and draws them to places like cemeteries--where in their grief from losing loved ones, humans began to associate ghost-types with the spirits of their fallen loved ones.Take Yamask for example, its pokedex entry suggests that the mask that it carries is its former face. But what if the mask that the Pokémon carries is just a depiction of a human spirit that it is in contact with and is attempting to guide to either the afterlife or to see its loved ones? It weeps not because it misses its human life, but rather because it can hear the sad cries of the human spirit that its mask is based on. Lacking the sixth sense that ghost-types have, a human sees a familiar face on the mask and assumes that Yamask is their lost loved one.Even Spiritomb are likely not actually composed of 108 spirits in the way that people might think, rather Spiritomb is literally a spirit tomb--a container. The Pokémon itself is like a "spirit parasite" that must absorb and feed off of a minimum of 108 spirits that it captures and traps within itself. After years of evolution, Spiritomb need at least 108 spirits in order to emerge from the odd keystone and take physical form. However, 108 spirits do not willingly "merge" to form Spiritomb. The only true "ghost" ghost-type Pokémon is Shedinja as it cannot be found in the wild, has no biological gender, and is simply a possessed husk. This also explains its ability, Wonder Guard. As a "true ghost" Shedinja can only be harmed by spiritual energy in the form of ghost-type attacks and attacks that would most damage the vessel that it possesses. The spirit possessing the husk is able to protect against all other attacks.Anyway, that's my ghost-type theory. If you couldn't guess, Ghost-types are my favorite. Thanks for reading. Any responses/discussions are greatly appreciated. via /r/pokemon https://ift.tt/2Eb5Jzw
