"Gym closed for EX Raid that nobody was invited to"

#PokemonGO: There's a gym at a park in my city that's EX Raid eligible, but we've never been able to trigger it -- it's a bit awkward to get to, so people don't raid there much. Today I stopped by there and found, surprisingly, when I tried to check the gym the "closed for EX Raid" message appeared. Our PoGO player community coordinates raids on a Discord server, so when EX Raid invitations are issued, word spreads quickly. Apparently no one received an invitation for this park's gym's EX Raid. Thus it would seem that EX Raids could be taking place at all eligible gyms every other cycle, but invitations are issued only if enough people have raided at that gym during the off-cycle when normal raids appear at that gym. So by raiding a lot at an eligible gym, we're not triggering the EX Raid itself, we're triggering the invitations.I'm planning to keep an eye on raid activity at other EX Raid eligible gyms. If this hypothesis is correct, if no invitations were issued for an EX Raid eligible gym that was due for one, it won't have normal raids during that cycle because there's a EX Raid scheduled that nobody was invited to. via /r/TheSilphRoad http://bit.ly/2WvCtZG
