"I think what I want the most from Sword/Shield is"

A fresh and varied regional dex. I tend to play through each game multiple times, and one of my biggest problems with the Pokémon selection in more recent games is that, despite how large the dexes are, there's a lot of overlap between different games and regions. Both XY and SM crammed as much of the original 150 into their dexes as possible, and we've already seen most of those Pokémon a ton before. There are certain Pokémon that seem to show up in almost every region, and I don't just mean the obvious offenders like Magikarp and Zubat. Pokémon like Gastly, Abra, Geodude, Machop, Poliwag, Eevee, etc. are included in almost every regional dex and it's a shame because we have so many others that barely get used. A lot of Pokémon from Gens 4 and 5 especially have been underutilized. I can't remember the last time I encountered Shinx, Bidoof, Glameow, or Woobat, but I struggle to recall any games (other than BW) where Gastly isn't available.What I really want to see in the Galar region is Pokémon that haven't already been used a lot before. I want to see Scatterbug instead of Caterpie. I want Sentret or Bidoof instead of Rattata. Taillow instead of Pidgey. Tympole instead of Poliwag. Why is it always Magikarp when Feebas exists as an alternative? Same for Zubat and Woobat/Noibat.Obviously, this is less of an issue for the main target demographic of younger children, but as a long-time player, I'm kind of craving a mix-up in the pool of in-game Pokémon.
