#PokemonGO: Crazy I know, but hear me out. Niantic runs these periods of time called "events." During aforementioned events, certain Pokémon randomly appear in your buddy photos and the spawn next to you! Another crazy thing is that Niantic tells you when events like this happen in the IN-GAME NEWS! If you need help finding the in-game news, you can find it by tapping the little pokeball on the bottom of the game UI and looking at the top right for the News icon.
