"Pokémon Fan Mom... HELP?!"

Hey! Hoping people here can help me. My 9 year old son talks about these cards and has got some from some family members and trades at school... all he talks about is EX and GX. I have zero idea what any of this means as I’ve never bought them , I just know he wants some cards for xmas. He doesn’t know how to actually play the game but freaks out over EX and GX cards lol.I’m trying to get Xmas stuff purchased ... what should I be searching for for him ?? Where do I get the cards and which ones do I get? Are there ones that are cooler than others or newer editions?
