"Elesa's Challenge mode team in B2W2 is a Gold Standard for Gym Leader teams"

For those who are not familiar with her team, it consist of:Emolga (Static) holding Sitrus BerryQuick Attack, Pursuit, Volt Switch, Aerial AceFlaafy (Static)Thunder Wave, Volt Switch, Takedown, Confuse RayJoltic (Unnerve)Thunder Wave, Volt Switch, X-Scissor, Energy BallZebstrika (Motor Drive) holding Sitrus BerryVolt Switch, Pursuit, Flame Charge, StompThis team is brilliant! It's designed to combat all sorts counters you might bring into the fight. You want to use a Ground -type move? Well, surprise, Emolga is immune and Joltik is neutral (Bug resist Ground). Joltik's Energy Ball (a very powerful move BTW, 80 powers on the 4th gym?!) can deal with any Ground or Rock type move you might have brought along hoping to counter Elesa, Pokémon that usually aren't the best at blocking Special Attacks. She's equipped with Pursuit to catch you off guard if you try to switch. Zebstrika's Flame Charge means that bringing a Magneton to tank the Electric hits, or even a Grass -type, is not a fool proof plan, and if it gets fast enough from it, it can Flinch-hax you with Stomp. And all of them can pivot into each others if needed. Flaafy doesn't get hit super effectively by Rock type moves that would cripple Emolga and Joltik, for exemple. And you have two Sitrus Berry in there! The only complain I have toward this team is that Flaafy should know Brick Break or Rock Smash instead of Takedown. This would give the team even more coverage. This means that if you're battling Elesa, you can't just charge in with a single super effective Pokémon and expect to easily bowl her over. You gotta think about your move choice, you gotta think about back up plans. It's not mindless spamming of the A button. At the same time, the deck isn't SO stacked against you to be impossible. If you go in with a plan and a good team that includes more neutral match ups, you can overcome Elesa and feel SMART about it.This Gym Battle feels like the perfect level of difficulty the game devs should aimed for when designing gym leader teams. It's incredibly well put together! The way the Gym Leaders became SO pathetic in Gen 6 was just devastating. Heck, none of the Kalos Gym leaders even have 4 Pokémon, it's ridiculous.Agree, disagree? Have any other Gym Leader teams you want to highlight? via /r/pokemon https://ift.tt/3sU6TFY
