"Why don’t medals give better rewards?"

#PokemonGO: I know that asking Niantic to change something is about as useful as eating drywall, but I figured I’d still ask; why don’t the medals give better rewards? Like maybe a fat EXP bonus or items that once you unlock you don’t then have to pay for. I recently unlocked my second platinum badge for 1000 wins in the great league, and got no reward. (Not that I was expecting one.) considering how hard EXP can be to earn in this game, wouldn’t it make sense to make the medal system one of the ways to gain chunks of EXP quicker?
