"Showerthought: Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl will be the first remakes to mechanically be virtually identical to the originals"
In past remakes, the mechanics were so wildly different compared to the originals that they played entirely differently. FRLG had abilities, Special stat split, crit mechanic change, held items, two new types, etc that it played very different from RBY.Similarly, and probably the biggest difference, is HGSS to GSC. You had new evolutions (Yanma no longer a dex filler), physical special split (Sneasel wasn't awful anymore), abilities and wider movepools (Scizor was legitimately great).ORAS had the physical special split (all Hoenn Darks were no longer awful) and a few new evolutions (Gallade, Froslass) and more abilities. Meanwhile BDSP will play virtually identically to DP. Other than Hidden Abilities all the Pokémon that were good in DP will be good in BDSP, there's no shake up, no niche picks that suddenly stand out. It's quite sad because in the past remakes I often tried my best to try out Pokémon I left in the dust in their originals, but I can't see that happening now. Unless new mechanics are added, something like Carnivine won't suddenly be a good team pick. via /r/pokemon https://ift.tt/3nIms1n
