"Leon is a reference to older fans of the series"


I don't see this talked about enough, but Leon is an allegory. He represents the older pokemon generation. The reason he's the "undefeated champion" is because of his knowledge of the strengths and weaknesses of every pokemon. This can be seen in-game as he has an answer to almost anything you can throw at him(Champion battle). Contrast with hop, who obviously represents the younger generation and hasn't quite learned the nuances of types and abilities yet. It's relatable for those with older siblings who play competitively. And personally, something I relate to very much. Also, the battle tower theme slaps. via /r/pokemon https://ift.tt/5sVYm3z
