"Theory: Ash's Charizard grew so fast and wouldn't obey him because it was technically traded to him."

Think about it, it's the only starter he gets that he met the previous owner. Charmander was abandoned like the other starter Pokemon he gets, but unlike the rest, we see the previous trainer multiple times telling us multiple things:Charmander was abandoned very recently compared to the others.Charmander had not yet become a wild Pokemon again, something that could be argued of Squirtle and Bulbasaur, having been left so long ago they started their own new, trainer-less lives.Charmander's original trainer is even there when Charmander chooses to go with Ash.Edit in addition and to quell the badge obedience argument, many fans feel like many of Ash's Indigo League badges were never properly earned. Pokemon are smart; Charizard could know this and still feel like Ash doesn't deserve his respect. For this theory to work, I am assuming that Charmander kept his "OT ID" by going from trainer to trainer by switching loyalties, and Bulbasaur and Squirtle "lost" their OT ID by reintegrating as wild Pokemon with no trainer before meeting Ash, making Ash now the OT. via /r/pokemon https://ift.tt/UixnJlg
