"[PSA/IDEA/OBSERVATION] Easing taking down L10 (or high-level) Gyms with multiple players (tested with 2)"
#PokemonGO: Hi travelers, I don't know whether this was mentioned before, well-known, or tested, but recently, I and my wife came up with a faster way to tear down L10 (or high-level) enemy Gyms. We are both the same team (Valor). Previously, we would attack at the same time, which makes the overall fight possible, however lets the party lower the same total prestige for the Gym. Recently, we attack with some time between us, such that we never fight the same Pokemon, so, once we clear the Gym, we lower the prestige twice faster than old times. Gym tearing through asynchronous raids The idea behind this approach is that instead of starting the fight at the same, players from the same (or potentially two of the opposing) team, enters to Gym battle one after each other. For example, the second player enters the Gym battle after the first one clears the first stage, etc. Then, attacks are coordinated such that the players never reach to the same level, i.e., the first player always kills a Pokemon before the second player starts battling that Pokemon. I cannot explain why, but this approach feels tearing down high-level Gyms much more easier. Just to give you an idea, I and my wife, will lower 12,500 (6,500 for myself and 6000 for my wife) after sweeping a lever 10 Gym back to back. If we had attacked at the same time, the prestige would have lowered only by 6500. Did anyone experience/observe something similar? Is there anything fundamentally wrong with our approach? Requirements High-level players with a good stock of Pokemon that are capable to clear the Gym from beginning to the end. I am not sure, but I don't think it is worth losing 1500 sweep bonus. At least two players (or two groups).A good stock of potion/revives since you will eat through items faster. Some pitfalls to consider To ensure that two players never reach to the same Pokemon, I and my wife generally start with 2 Pokemon distance (e.g., I start the fight after my wife kills the first two Pokemon). Even in this case, sometimes, we might need to stall (e.g., just dodge attacks without attacking) if we get close to each other (e.g., when there are low CP Pokemon at the beginning and then Snorlaxes back to back). If the second player catches up with the first player, this approach does not work. By design, the approach requires coordination and might be difficult with many people (never tried with 3 people).Sometimes, when a player starts at the beginning (or when s/he is close to the end), killing the next Pokemon might be good enough to lower the Gym level by 1. Be careful about these cases as they might also force both players to get to the same level, hence defeating the approach, or even worse, the deadly Gym "error" bug, where a player would locked out for 10 minutes. Some people suggested that this becomes harder with a large group of people. Although I don't know the exact point, as I pointed out, I only tried this with two people. So, for large groups, maybe an option would be to split into two (or three) sub-teams and apply the same strategy in a different granularity. Travel safe.
