"[Discussion] Regardless of how you feel about it, speed locking in PoGo won't stop drivers from playing."

#PokemonGO: Speed locks in PoGo for pokemon spawns and pokestops have been pretty controversial since their recent introduction into the game. Some agree that these modifications are generally good, in that they discourage drivers from playing the game while driving. Others argue that the speed locks put passengers (especially those living in regions where playing as a pedestrian is impossible and uncomfortable) who are not trying to play while driving at and disadvantage.Yet regardless of how you personally feel about the new PoGo speed locks, they will not drastically reduce the amount of players who play while driving relative to the amount of people doing so before these updates. This is because the degree to which the game is "playable" as a driver remains largely unchanged.Playing as a driver on the highway has always been too difficult to be worthwhile. Through each update of the game, it has generally been true that at speeds of 60mph+ (100kmph+) nearly zero pokemon will spawn. In my experience, when pokemon DID spawn at those speeds it happened maybe every 45 minutes or so, and tapping the pokemon in time to catch it before it despawned was also always fairly difficult.Playing as a driver on non-highway roads has previously been possible, and it still is. I will concede that playing at speeds between 30 mph (50 kmph) and 60 mph is now impossible whereas it wasn't before. But in a general sense, most non-highway roads also have stoplights, stopsigns and turn lanes where drivers will occasionally decelerate to speeds under 30mph. The game does update it's speedometer frequently enough to where it is possible to catch pokemon and spin pokestops during those periods of deceleration. In conclusion, it is my belief that individuals who were playing while driving will continue to do so. Perhaps they will now catch fewer pokemon and spin fewer stops, but I doubt that a reduction in the effectiveness of playing while driving is enough to convince those folks to stop entirely. via /r/pokemongo https://www.reddit.com/r/pokemongo/comments/5bxm37/discussion_regardless_of_how_you_feel_about_it/?utm_source=ifttt
