"New PoGo Ranking List of Attackers, Defenders, Prestigers, and Counters with Dodge Mechanics Considerations"

#PokemonGO: Hi Trainers,I've seen a few ranking systems for Pokemon Go pop up recently, but none of them have really seemed quite right. So rather than complaining, I decided to take it into my own hands and make my own list based on a modified version of Weave DPS and Dodging Ability. You can skip to Results, if you don't really care about my methodology.Modified Weave DPSAlright, so first of all Weave DPS essentially aggregates the amount of damage outputted based on a combination of both your fast and charge move. Often times, we only look at overall DPS of a move, but Weave DPS is much more accurate to describe the actual damage output based on a moveset pair. However, the problem with most Weave DPS calculations is that it assumes the battle will last 100s. Obviously we know this is not that realistic (based on my experiences) and you can usually finish a battle within half the time. I calculated a slightly modified Weave DPS in which 1-bar charge moves get SLIGHTLY punished. How many times have you almost charged up that 1-bar charge but your Pokemon faints and you wish you had a 2-bar charge instead. So annoying.Dodging MechanicsOn Defense: Another thing that is rarely considered (or poorly considered in simulations) is dodging. Dodging is a very important mechanic trainers use to mitigate damage so you can DPS for longer. Some simulations just dodge EVERY charge move, while others dodge EVERY single move. Again, I don't think this is realistic. Dodging ability is really dependent on how fast you can notice the animation of the defender and then how well you can see that yellow flash. It's been theorized that the yellow flash is somehow related to the damage window of the defender. Also, despite some trainers claiming perfect dodging for both fast and charge moves, I've assumed that trainers only dodge charge moves to the best of their ability. I scaled one's "Dodge Ability" based on the damage window of the defender's charge move. For example, charge moves like Solar Beam or Fire Blast, I assumed the average trainer can dodge ~70% of the time, while charge moves like Cross Chop or Brick Break, I assumed the average trainer can dodge ~30% of the time. In practice, this helps increase the defender power of a Petal Blizzard Venusaur slightly while decreasing the defender power of a Solar Beam Venusaur. On Attack: Another dodging mechanic that I've noticed is faster fast-moves are generally better than slower fast-moves as it allows the trainer to more easily dodge. Therefore, I buffed the attacking power of a Pokemon that has fast fast-moves (e.g. Psycho Cut, Water Gun) by ~5% while nerfing the attacking power of Pokemon that has slow fast-moves (e.g. Confusion, Mud-Slap) by ~5%.ASSUMPTIONSAttacking/Defending Pokemon have Perfect IV. Prestigers have IV of 0-15-15. Gym Defenders are Level 30. Legendaries Removed.RESULTS http://ift.tt/2lctSbL by ATTACK_POWER for Best Raw Attack Power. Sort by A_DUEL_POWER for Best Attacker. Sort by D_DUEL_POWER for Best Defender.(Note that these results do not consider your area's meta.)BEST RAW ATTACK POWER These Pokemon are most likely glass cannons, but I know a lot of people are just interested in which are Pokemon are the best attackers. Here are some notable examples where I've taken the best moveset for the top 8 Pokemon. Note that I do NOT consider these the best Gym Attackers, these are just the glass cannons for those interested.Gengar - Shadow Claw - Shadow BallDragonite - Dragon Tail - OutrageAlakazam - Psycho Cut - FuturesightFlareon - Fire Spin - OverheatHaunter - Shadow Claw - Shadow BallMachamp - Counter - Dynamic PunchEspeon - Confusion - FuturesightExeggutor - Extrasensory - SolarbeamBEST OVERALL ATTACKERS These Pokemon are the ones I consider the best attackers. Obviously, don't just choose the top Pokemon and do some Type Matching (will speak more about this below) before you choose your line up to take down an enemy gym! Also, any of these mons with almost any moveset will do well. Check the spreadsheet to see what I think the best movesets are for each mon.Link here: http://ift.tt/2lJ5VMt - Pound - Hyperbeam (Honestly, any moveset will work since this beast is so powerful. As long as you don't time out, she will NOT die. If you're facing something else that you think has 300+ hp move to the next mon on this list.)Snorlax - Lick - Hyperbeam. (Lick is buffed hard imo. Amazing NRGPS and decent DPS. Move down list if defender HP is 525+)Dragonite - Dragon Tail - OutrageTyranitar - Bite - Stone EdgeVaporeon - Water Gun - Hydro Pump (added more below)Gyarados - Dragon Tail - Hydro PumpRhydon - Mud Slap - Stone EdgeMuk - Poison Jab - Gunk ShotLapras - Water Gun - BlizzardExeggutor - Extrasensory - Solar BeamBEST OVERALL DEFENDERS These Pokemon are the ones I consider the best defenders. Again, this will depend on your gym meta. And to be honest, there's almost no point in using low CP mons outside the Big 7 (Blissey, Dragonite, Gyarados, Tyranitar, Vaporeon, Snorlax, Rhydon) cause your own team is going to kick you out anyways. You can think of this list as, "if gyms weren't arranged by CP, who would I put in my gyms"Link here: http://ift.tt/2lcwkPq - Zen Headbutt - Dazzling Gleam*Dragonite - Dragon Tail - Outrage (if there's a lot of ICE pokemon in your meta, this guy will drop off the list)Snorlax - Zen Headbutt - Body SlamRhydon - Mud Slap - Stone Edge (if there's a lot of WATER/GRASS pokemon in your meta, this guy will drop off the list)Tyranitar - Iron Tail - CrunchExeggutor - Confusion - Seed BombEspeon - Confusion - FuturesightJolteon - Volt Switch - ThunderboltGolem - Mud Slap - Stone EdgeSlowbro/Slowking - Confusion - PsychicSteelix - Iron Tail - Heavy SlamAmpharos - Volt Switch - Zap CannonACTUAL INTERESTING RESULTSOkay, so by this point, you might be thinking, "I only see the Big 7 in my area. What's the point of even having a top defender list?" I took a deeper dive into these mons and here are the counters/prestigers with their ideal moveset. See spreadsheet here: http://ift.tt/2lJ4Sfp by cp_eff for Prestigers. Sort by DUEL_POWER_VS_POKEMON for Counter.Assumptions:Prestiger team has a max CP of 1500.Gym defenders are Level 30.Gym counters are Level 30.Gym defenders have moveset that is aligned with their type (no tricky defenders). It's difficult to determine what moveset the Gym Defender has, so I had to make this raw assumption. In the future, I might adjust the analysis against specific moveset defenders.BLISSEY PRESTIGERS (NEW)Machoke - Karate Chop - Dynamic PunchHitmonchan - Counter - Close Combat (only this moveset)Primeape - Counter - Close CombatMachamp - Counter Close Combat (more movesets possible)Heracross - Counter - Close CombatHitmonlee - Low Kick - Close CombatAlakazam - Psycho Cut - Focus BlastBLISSEY COUNTERSTyranitar - Bite - Stone Edge (Really any Moveset)Snorlax - Lick - Hyper BeamDragonite - Dragon Tail - Outrage (Really any Moveset)Rhydon - Rock Smash - Stone Edge (Really any Moveset)Machamp - Counter - Dynamic PunchExeggutor - Extrasenssory - Solar Beam (new)Heracross - Counter - Earthquake (new)DRAGONITE PRESTIGERSDewgong - Frost Breath - BlizzardSkarmory - Steel Wing - Sky AttackLapras - Frost Breath - Blizzard (Really any Moveset)Steelix - Dragon Tail - Heavy SlamPiloswine - Powder Snow - AvalancheCloyster - Frost Breath - AvalancheDRAGONITE COUNTERSBlissey - Pound - Hyper Beam (Any moveset)Lapras - Frost - Frost Breath - Blizzard (Any moveset)Snorlax - Lick - Hyper BeamTyranitar - Bite - Stone EdgeDragonite - Dragon Tail - OutrageCloyster - Frost Breath - AvalancheSNORLAX PRESTIGERSSkarmory - Steel Wing - Sky Attack (Any moveset)Blissey - Pound - Hyper BeamSteelix - Dragon Tail - Heavy SlamForretress - Bug Bite - Heavy Slam (I've never heard of this mon, lol)Umbreon - Feint Attack - Foul PlayMachoke - Karate Chop - Dynamic PunchSudowoodo - Counter - Rock SlideSNORLAX COUNTERSTyranitar - Bite - Stone Edge (Really any Moveset)Snorlax - Lick - Hyper BeamDragonite - Dragon Tail - Outrage (Really any Moveset)Rhydon - Rock Smash - Stone Edge (Really any Moveset)Machamp - Counter - Dynamic PunchTYRANITAR PRESTIGERSMachoke - Karate Chop - Dynamic PunchHitmontop - Low Kick - Dynamic PunchPoliwrath - Bubble - Dynamic PunchPrimeape - Counter - Close CombatSkarmory - Steel Wing - Flash CannonTYRANITAR COUNTERSMachamp - Counter - Dynamic PunchHeracross - Counter - Close CombatTyranitar - Iron Tail - Stone EdgeBlissey - Pound - Hyper BeamPoliwrath - Bubble - Dynamic PunchVaporeon - Water Gun - Hydro PumpGYARADOS PRESTIGERSLanturn - Charge Beam - ThunderboltElectrode - Spark - ThunderboltRaichu - Spark - Wild ChargeMagneton - Spark - Zap CannonKingdra - Dragon Breath - OutrageMeganium - Vine Whip - Solar BeamGYARADOS COUNTERSBlissey - Pound - Hyper BeamSnorlax - Lick - Hyper BeamDragonite - Dragon Tail - Outrage (Really any Moveset)Jolteon - Thunder Shock - ThunderboltLanturn - Charge Beam - ThunderboltAmpharos - Charge Beam - Zap CannonRHYDON PRESTIGERSMeganium - Vine Whip - Solar BeamTangela - Vine Whip - Grass KnotBelossom - Razor Leaf - Leaf BladeParasect - Fury Cutter - Solar BeamSunflora - Razor Leaf - Solar BeamRHYDON COUNTERSVaporeon - Water Gun - Hydro PumpExeggutor - Bullet Seed - Solar BeamBlissey - Pound - Hyper BeamMeganium - Vine Whip - Solar BeamLapras - Water Gun - Hydro PumpVAPOREON PRESTIGERSMeganium - Vine Whip - Solar BeamLanturn - Charge Beam - ThunderboltTangela - Vine Whip - Grass KnotBelossom - Razor Leaf - Leaf BladeVenusaur - Vine Whip - Solar BeamSunflora - Razor Leaf - Solar BeamVAPOREON COUNTERSBlissey - Pound - Hyper BeamDragonite - Dragon Tail - Outrage (Really any Moveset)Snorlax - Lick - Hyper BeamVenusaur - Vine Whip - Solar BeamExeggutor - Bullet Seed - Solar BeamMeganium - Vine Whip - Solar BeamAlright, so that took way longer than I anticipated. You can take a look at the attached spreadsheets for your own analysis.Let me know what you think of the lists and the spreadsheets. Time to sleep.Cheers.Edit:Firstly, thank you to all for your wonderful feedback (both positive and critical). I'll try my best to reply to all messages later this evening. Please note that this ranking list is only my first released version (v1.0), there are some flaws to it and I have made some assumptions that you should consider before going out and battling. For example, if you're a pro dodger, then this list might not feel as accurate. If you are able to develop a rhythm with slower fast moves, then adjust the ranking accordingly. If you're meta has a specific biome, adjust accordingly. This analysis is really meant to serve as a guide to help you in your PoGo adventures and is in no way the Bible of movesets (I don't have the same resources or knowledge as gamepress). Use your own judgment, think critically! Also, I've noticed that some of the Blissey/Snorlax prestigers are a bit strange. I've updated the lists here a bit, but I'll update the spreadsheet later tonight. As some of you have mentioned, based on your experience, as attackers they might not do enough damage, while as defenders are simply too tanky to even take down. This context is really helpful when developing rankings like this as I personally haven't faced a Blissey (or used one), yet. But I will update the "Interesting Results" section. Sit tight for v1.1! via /r/TheSilphRoad http://ift.tt/2ly152u
