"Nest Atlas Update: A Whole New Shadowban System to Mitigate Knuckleheads"

#PokemonGO: Morning, travelers!Just wanted to update y'all on a major backend upgrade to the Atlas that we've been excited to launch. The Atlas' Shadow ZoneWhen a knucklehead reports a MewTwo or other misinformation on the Atlas and folks report it to us, we've previously just blotted them out. But this was a somewhat laborious process and sucked up a lot of time. We've long longed for the day when we can more efficiently handle these knuckleheads.Well, today's that day!As of (very) late last night, the Nest Atlas is now equipped with a new weapon in the fight against knuckleheads! It's called the "Shadow Zone" of the Atlas. It's a mirrored copy of the Atlas, but trolls and knuckleheads' contributions only show up therein.Want a quick trip to the Shadow Zone? Just report an Articuno at the South Pole! But be warned - there's no coming back. Once you've been banished from the live Atlas, all your past reports/nests are taken with you.Is it Perfect and Foolproof?Nah, but it's effective in the vast majority of cases and helps us clean things up in a jiff if a problem is ever reported to us.Should I Report Everyone I Disagree With?We don't have the resources to patrol all 40k+ active nests in the Atlas. :) But the good news is, soon local leadership will be able to help with your area!In the meantime, feel free to report egregious sins (we've seen some nasty abuse. Shame on those travelers!) and we'll get it taken care of.There will soon be some changes and added resources to help folks know what to report where and how. Don't sweat it too much right now, travelers. Wait til local leadership is in place in your region and then we'll have the manpower to fully oversee the Atlas in your area. Just keep doing what you're doing, reporting solid information. What's Next?As I said above, soon local leadership will be able to take stewardship of the Atlas in their area. This was a major step forward in that process. This will include the ability to merge duplicate nests and mark spawnpoints. (Not an easy task - but we're working on it!)Stay tuned for an update on this front!Parting WordsThe Road is a network of trust. The overwhelming majority of our travelers have performed admirably and helped countless others with their innumerable reports. Every migration we have tens of thousands of verified nesting locations all around the world. To me, there's something sobering and wonderful about panning around to some far off location around the globe and seeing our fellow travelers in that region updating alongside us all. When I travel, I love checking out the local Atlas and seeing the reports from our fellow travelers in the area.It ties us all together on the Road.So we're doing our best to mitigate the impact of the handful of folks who don't value our values. The future of Silph is bright!Travel safe,- Executive Dronpes -p.s. Also, logging in now redirects you back where you were. :) via /r/TheSilphRoad http://ift.tt/2nxcZJx
