"Pokemon Go on iOS 11 beta, backgrounding, and battery drain"

#PokemonGO: Betas are betas and I've always held the personal belief that, if you're going to install them it means you're an adult who understands the potential consequences, so save the complaints and file the radars. That said, I'm finding PoGo curious on iOS 11. Namely, iOS 11 now prominently displays when PoGo is using location services in the background. It gives you the same type of banner you get when VOIP or Navigation is running in the background. Wicked obvious. To backtrack slightly, ever since the second or third update following the introduction of the Watch Workout extension, PoGo has been hitting the iPhone heavily on background. Sometimes with an audio notation, which is curious. Streaming audio is one of the few API that really has full-on background access on iOS and some apps, like Facebook, have been caught abusing it in the past (running silent audio so they could avoid jettison and stay open.)I don't know if this relates to that, but PoGo is staying hot in the background well beyond what I'd expect. Even when I force quit the app, the banner still pops up showing PoGo using location services.I don't know if that's just a bug in iOS 11's resource shaming, if PoGo really is doing something above and beyond on Background API, or if something else like the Watch or PoGo Plus connection is triggering it.I was wondering if anyone here might have a deeper understanding of what's going on with PoGo and iOS background processes? Thanks to screen time and radio time, it's one of the apps that hits iPhone battery the hardest, so I try to keep track of it and it's resource usage as much as possible.Edit: Minor text fixes. via /r/TheSilphRoad http://ift.tt/2trw8zV
