"Why is the gym error cooldown there in first place?"

#PokemonGO: Since a few weeks (or months already? Maybe I just got lucky and ever noticed) you get locked out of gyms for 5 minutes when walking out of range while battling (basically everytime the GO appears at the beginning of a fight your location gets checked). However, this is badly prone to gps drifting.A little anecdote: I tried to conquer and build up a "new" gym that has always been on Instinct most of the time, but only like level 3 (atm it held a Vape and a Gary so prestiging would be fine). Every third or fourth run I was errored out inbetween and had to wait for five minutes until I could continue. Since I wanted to build up the gym really badly, I just kept going for it despite waiting for the cooldown to vanish every now and then. But sometimes when trying to take down a L10 enemy gym just to get kicked out after beating one Pokémon I often let it be and move on.I am sure I am by far not the only person affected by this. GPS signals may be bad sometimes. Bad weather and other shenanigans make it inaccurate. And I am also sure it also discourages other people to do gyms. So my question is: Why is this cooldown there in first place? I don't understand what it is supposed to do. If it is supposed to handle spoofers, well guess what: Spoofers can perfectly pin their position to one point and not move a centimeter for hours. So it doesn't hurt spoofers but rather legit players that are fighting for real, during rain or heat, it makes them do gyms less while spoofers couldn't care less and even sit longer in their gyms because other people are sick of getting errored out. I know it's a little extreme, but I am sure there are hundreds of places that are "known" for bad GPS / mobile data signal and get visited less frequently because of it.If someone could explain why this mechanic had been implemented (bonus points for a public, reliable source), feel free to shed some light on this. I can totally understand if there is a legit answer to this, but if the answer is to punish spoofers, this thing has to go since it rather rewards them and punishes normal players. via /r/TheSilphRoad http://ift.tt/2qJwa96
