"ATB would solve all the combat related lag issues"

#PokemonGO: Niantic has been struggling with various combat bugs caused by lag ever since the game launched, and now one year later they still haven't been able to fix combat. The currently most common issue I encounter is failing dodges in raids. This causes the game to think my Pokemon is dead when it actually isn't, which prevents the auto-swap and eventually kicks me out from the battle even though some of my Pokemon still have HP and do not need to be revived after the battle. In a raid with 10+ people I essentially cannot dodge at all, as every time time the game correctly displays the "Dodge" text and deducts the correct amount of HP, only to then correct itself and remove the remaining HP, putting the Pokemon in limbo. To me it seems insanse to so adamantly stick to a twitchy real time battle system in a game based on unstable mobile connections and extremely diverse hardware with much of it ill equipped to handle the battle graphics.I can see why Niantic would not want to go the main series turn based route, however. It's more complex and not that well suited to battles with a lot of participants.ATB, or Active Time Battle, I believe, would be the perfect compromise. You pick a move to execute, and the Pokemon executes it when its ATB gauge, which fills over time, is full. There are a number of advantages to this system:It would tolerate lag infinitely better than the current system. The current combat system would not need major overhauls to be moved over as is. The move count/Pokemon could still be kept at two and you'd only have to multiply the damage and energy generation of moves to compensate for the slower pace of combat. This would also allow for the removal of the defender HP multiplier because the player would no longer have a control advantage. The speed stat of pokemon could finally play a unique role, with it having an effect on the speed at with the ATB gauge fills. Perhaps around two seconds would be a fine baseline for average speed Pokemon.ATB scales very well for increased complexity if Niantic wants to implement that. More moves than two/pokemon? Easily done. Complete combat overhaul with status effects and/or removal of the energy charging mechanic? Also easily done.ATB also scales well for more players. There would be no confusing or annoying waiting for other players to act and the massive lag would be a non-issue. via /r/TheSilphRoad http://ift.tt/2vjDc6C
