"Remember guys, it's just a game."

#PokemonGO: First off, yesterday was awesome. I missed out on all the craze last year because I had an old phone and didn't start until after Labor Day, so I missed out on the huge launch. But I got a feel of it yesterday and saw a little bit of everything. We had 19 adults, 1 dog and 1 baby show up for a Lugia raid, and then after that the group moved to a nearby Articuno raid and had to split into two groups after about 15 more people including a family of six, all with their own devices, showed up. People were having a great time and it was cool to see. However, things got a little weird at the Lugia raid. I missed a raid and was told as people walked away that everyone was heading to this Lugia raid nearby. So I roll up and after a couple of minutes we have 13 people there. We know from the last raid that a couple more are coming and the local chat group says a few more are a couple minutes away, and we let the group know. This announcement is met with resistance from a Dad who is there with his wife and son, who are all playing. He says we have enough and to tell them it's too late. We say just give it a couple minutes and we'll all jump in, so now he's clearly annoyed but not 10 minutes later everyone is there and we beat it.The guy's son is clearly amped that he has a chance to catch Lugia, and rightfully so, so he's doing what any 9-year-old would do and he's narrating his catch attempts and letting out "Awws" and "Nooooo" as Lugia escapes his throws. Most of us are laughing or not paying the kid any attention since we're focused on our own attempts. The dad, clearly annoyed at his own failing attempts to catch the legendary bird, yells at his kid to shut up. Not "settle down" or "Hey buddy, can you keep it down?" Nope, "Johnathan shut up!" Johnny is down to his last ball at this point and Lugia escapes and he lets out a dejected "Noooo" and his dad snaps, again yelling "Johnathan, shut up, do you realize how big of a distraction you are." Nobody in the group is annoyed by Johnathon but we're all casting awkward glances at one another because of the dad. As the raid ends the Dad blames his failure to catch Lugia on his son's actions, and then when Johnathan says "I didn't catch it either," his dad said "That's because you're not good at throwing curveballs and you should have let me catch it for you."The kid didn't seem hurt by his dad's words because he was in his own little world but it just sucked to see someone taking the game so seriously that they'd lash out at someone else, let alone their own kid. Both dad and son got the Articuno at the next raid, so that kept Dad in check, but it was kind of depressing to see someone so angry on a day which I'd rank as one of my best playing Pokemon Go.*Added spaces to break up a wall of text. via /r/pokemongo http://ift.tt/2vkuRic
