"Scotland Would Make a Great Region for Pokemon, Here's My Thoughts Why"
So, while waiting for Uni to start again I’ve been showing my girlfriend around my native Scotland. Just so happens I’ve been playing Pokemon in my downtime and so my mind linked the two together. I started running through how I think a Pokemon game set in Scotland would work and thought it could be pretty interesting! Thought I would post it here and see others opinions on it or if others have any good ideas for their own country.Basic Information Scotland is a country with beautiful scenery, interesting g cities and an abundance of wildlife which would make it perfect for a Pokemon game. Like France (Kalos) it’s popular with tourists with Edinburgh and the Highlands attracting people from all over the world meaning fans would already be familiar with the area in general.Name and Theme Not quite sure whether or not this would work well but I believe the theme would be centred around humans interaction with nature and conservation, a theme touched upon In ORAS and other games but not fully explored. The name would reflect this and be Pokemon Hill and Lake with a third version connecting them being River.Environment Scotland has a wide range of landscapes from the windswept Highlands, the snow covered Cairngorms to the rivers and lochs of the lowlands. These would make a great settings for a pokemon game where there’s loads of things to explore and find. Plenty of lakes, islands and rivers add to the surfability (HM or not) and the mountains and caves add a nice element of variety with different weather throughout the region.Starting village – One of the many small towns in Moray, maybe Spey Bay, a little coastal tourist spot that’s kind of isolated. Would fit well I think. 1st Gym – Elgin, normal type 2nd, 3rd and 4th Gyms can be faced in any order – These are a grass gym at Inverness, an Ice gym at Aviemore and a rock Gym at Aberdeen. 5th Gym is accessible after beating the previous 4 and acts as a gateway to the final 3. 5th Gym – A water gym at Dundee 6th, 7th and 8th gym would be faced in any order as well – these are a Dragon gym at Glasgow, a Steel gym at Stirling and a fairy gym at Edinburgh. The elite 4 would be faced back to the North West on the Isle of Skye requiring a lengthy journey through hills and water to access and the post game would be centred around the Highlands with the aim of reaching the battle frontier I Orkney. Small explorative places St Andrews Perth Castles The now three Forth Bridges could be a cool element, there’s also a small island underneath them with an abandoned building on it that would be interesting to include. Castles Country Estates Distillery Edinburgh FestivalPokemon The region has three powerful legendary pokemon. A water/dragon type based on the Loch Ness monster near the city of Inverness (Lake) a water/grass type based on the Kelpie of myths near Stirling (River) Fire/Electric Golden Eagle based near Dundee and Aviemore (Mountain) These would be the box legendaries.Starters Grass – A wild piglet that evolves into a (definitely quadruped) Grass/Rock boar with stone tusks Water – A small water bird that evolves into a Water/Flying Osprey Fire – A bear cub that evolves into a Fire/Steel Bear with steel plating covering the glowing hot body underneath Based on real animals – Scotland has a wide variety of wildlife which would make great designs! Some would be fairly similar animals to others but I think there’s definitely many that would make fantastic, original designs. Here’s some examples. The main basic bird would be a three stage normal/Flying type – Sparrow/Grouse/Capercaillie A Grass (with possible secondary typing) type thistle evolution chain A three stage evolution chain based around granite. A fire squirrel two stage evolution chain A water dolphin two stage evolution chain A two stage grass/dark type- wildcat/lynx An ice type Arctic hare A three stage badger pokemon (unsure on type) A pine marten pokemon (unsure on type) A three stage normal type Highland cow A three stage Water/Steel salmon pokemon A puffin evolution chain A white West Highland terrier that evolves into a white fairy dog. A black Scottish terrier that evolves into a dark type black dog.Based on Scottish Myths – Scotland has a wealth of myths and legends that’s I think would be perfect for some slightly stranger designs. A dark/fairy evolution chain based on a Bean Nighe which is a fairy harbinger of death A nuckelavee (based on an orkney demon with no skin) dark/ground type (maybe a bit too grotesque). A water type based on the blue men of minch A water (with another type) based on the mythical Selkie, a seal that could take the form of a woman. A fairy/Steel evolution chain based on the redcap (possible pseudo) A ground type based on the scariest Scottish myth – the haggis! Seriously google the wild haggis. Not really mythical but a grass/fighting Highland warrior pokemon with a grass kilt and leaf like sword to appeal to the brave heart crowd. I kind of think this could be sort of similar to Lucario or Zoraork.Plenty of existing mons would also fit perfectly with the environment of Scotland, the above were just a few ideas I had and I’m sure more creative people than me could think up even more!Story The basic premise would be similar to earlier Pokemon games and revolve around getting badges as usual while fighting an evil team of some sort. The team in this game would fit with the nature theme and be a large corporation working in secret to take advantage of the natural resources of the area. Their ultimate goal would be to capture one of the legendary pokemon of the area to make use of their power. A fairly standard pokemon story but my main issue with quite a few past games is that the stakes are set too high. This would just be trying to save a region, your home, instead of the whole world and allow for a more personal story. So, they’re my reasons why I think Scotland would be a great region for Pokemon. I kind of wrote this as a stream of consciousness so I hope it makes sense! You could even do an extra region and include England in there as well as a double whammy. Anyone have any extra thoughts or ideas for their own home countries? via /r/pokemon http://ift.tt/2wT4Bx2
