"I really hope they don't make the same mistake they did with X and Y with Pokemon for the switch."

So since pokemon on x and y requited you to buy a new system, they probably thought "how can we attract more people to the game". Mega evolution was probably one but the other was to try to pull on those nostalgia strings with gen 1 and kanto and they went a little to far in my opinion. Starting off with the pokemon anime, they decided to bring back charizard and eventually the gang went all the way back to kanto (personally I don't remember that happening with other gens but it might have.). After that, they announced the new pokemon movie. This movie is usually used to promote the next gen with a tease of a new pokemon. First was the lucario movie in gen 3, then zoroark in gen 4 and then mewtwo in gen 5. Why it was mewtwo, idk. Maybe they thought mega mewtwo was cooler than anything else they had which kind of dissapoints me.The concept of mega evolution was cool to me to make wekaer pokemon relevant but that got thrown out of the window but thats not the problem here. Mega charizard and Mega mewtwo got more exposure than any other gen 6 pokemon or any other pokemon in general. Then came pokemon origins. It was cool but why only do gen 1? This was to promote gen 6. Seemed more like just promoting mega evolution instead but it was still a missed opportunity. Not to mention that no gen 6 pokemon got a mega till oras. Now the games came out and the pandering just got worse. After your own starter, you can get another kanto starter. Why? Are you not proud of your own starters. I liked what HGSS did with just giving you one post game but in the beginning was unnessesary imo. Though you can just not use it, it seemed they weren't confident in thier own pokemon or just pandering again. Then we got the ol viridian forest remake. Then they didn't make a legendary trio in the game and instead they put in the kanto legendaries instead. Mewtwo seemed more important than damn zygarde which was an actual legendary of the region.Main part is, it started to lose it's identity as a unique region and just seemed to pander for nostalgia. Sure it worked out in sales but it left a sour taste in others not to mentioned that they dulled the story and difficulty. Only reason why sun and moon gets a pass is because of the 20th anniversary. If they make a new region, they got to make it fresh imo. Kind of like gen 5. People like saying that gen 5 was full of gen 1 clones but I have to disagree with most of them. They seemed to enter in normal tropes of every gen (early bird mon, early dog mon, 3 stage version exclusives etc). It felt like a completely new game on its own. Still pokemon of course but an all new one. It also helped that they didn't include any other pokemon but thats a controversal option which I personally enjoyed.TL;DR: X and Y lost its own unique identity for nostalgia pandering. The new game should feel unique and new if its a new region and gen.Note: All this is irrelevant if the next game happens to be a gen 4 remake but I sure as hell hope its not a kanto remake. We already got one and kanto has gotten so much exposure for the last few gens and other gens are getting left behind for no reason. via /r/pokemon http://ift.tt/2FEyCRm
