"Analysis: The Value of Gold Badge Gyms"

#PokemonGO: This is an analysis of item drops from a Gold Badge Gym with team control. The data was gathered over one week, March 18 to March 25, with 270 spins and a total of 1944 items dropped. All spins are for the same gym. After about four days the distribution of items between the groups was stable within one percent so I stopped the experiment after seven days, you can view the raw data here (Google Spreadsheet) and use the data for whatever you want.Total Items per SpinI am only counting Balls, Berries, Revives, Potions and Evolution Items. Other items that were added additionally to the actual drop - raid passes and eggs - are ignored for this study. Normal spins from a Gold Badge Gym give you 7 or 8 items each. First spins of the day give you 9 or 10 items for the first six days and 30+ items for the seven-day-streak, again: not counting raid passes and eggs. Excluding first spins of the day there were a total of 263 spins for this analysis:Total ItemsNumberPercentage7 Items23990.87%8 Items249.13%There is a 1:10 or 1:11 chance to get the extra 8th item, and this is rolled with every spin: you can get two 8-item drops back to back and the longest streak with 7-item drops only in my sample was 46.Item GroupsTo illustrate the data for Gold Badge Gyms, I compare it with the most recent data for normal Pokéstops I could find, courtesy of /u/Puella_Magi from this post.Total ItemsNumberPercentagePokéstopsPokéballs100051.44%75.68%Berries45723.51%21.01%Potions33217.08%2.47%Revives1547.92%0.75%Evo Items10.05%0.09%The distribution of items within the groups (Revives - Potions - Berries - Balls) is roughly 1-2-3-7 for Gold Badge Gyms, which means you get roughly one Revive for every three Berries or every seven Balls. For normal Pokéstops the ratio is 1-3-28-100 or one Revive for every 28 Berries or every 100 Balls.PokéballsTotal ItemsNumberPercentagePokéstopsStandard (red)82682.60%71.93%Great (blue)12712.70%21.39%Ultra (yellow)474.70%7.14%Pokéstops are a better source for more powerful balls.BerriesTotal ItemsNumberPercentagePokéstopsNanab20043.76%20.40%Pinab10623.19%30.28%Razz15133.04%49.31%There is also a clear difference in berry distribution. Nanab Berries are most common with Gold Badge Gyms while about every second berry that drops from a Pokéstop is a Razz Berry.PotionsTotal ItemsNumberPercentagePokéstopsStandard23370.18%61.48%Super3811.45%28.79%Hyper3510.54%4.67%Max267.83%5.06%While Gold Badge Gyms are a much better source for potions overall, the distribution of Hyper and Max potions is also buffed within the group.RevivesTotal ItemsNumberPercentagePokéstopsStandard12782.47%85.90%Max2717.53%14.10%Similar distribution, maybe with slightly more Max Revives for gyms. But to compare raw numbers: 154 Revives dropped from 270 Gold Badge Gym spins, compared to just half of that, 78 Revives, from 3238 Pokéstop spins.ConclusionGo for Gold! It's totally worth it! via /r/TheSilphRoad https://ift.tt/2Gwcbln
