"How Pokemon helped me to learn English"

Back in 2007, my father bought a copy of Pokemon Diamond and Pearl for me and my little sister, I was 7 back then. we were stuck at Jubilife city for around 2 weeks until a classmate of mine told me that I had to talk with the 3 clowns. Further on, I kept playing the game. My sister meme'd words like Key Items, she pronounced it like 'Kay ittums' And stuff. On Youtube when I looked for tutorials in Dutch, which were low quality but helped. They pronounced words different. My babysitter also told me the E sometimes is pronounced as a Dutch 'ie' and the A as a Dutch 'e'. which made me think different about some words and helped me to improve stuff slowly. The moves were a big part of the game, stuff like Growl or Hyperbeam/signalbeam really helped. Silverwind was self-explanatory. And sleep powder was very obvious as well soon! Then I moved on to other moves, like Rock smash. Rock type is called in Dutch a 'stone type' litteraly translated so 'smash'ing a rock and Rock being 'steen' (actually being rots but the context is the same) made me learn the context very quickly! After 1 year I was able to understand what every character said in the entire game!Tell me your story! via /r/pokemon https://ift.tt/2IzB4u2
