"The 1 Day Challenge: Soloing Aerodactyl with Pokemon and Resources from a Single Day"

#PokemonGO: On Monday, I set myself a challenge. I had the day off and the forecast said it was going to be sunny and partly-cloudy all day. With the great spawns from Adventure Week plus potential weather-boosts to rock and ground from partly-cloudy and sunny weather respectively, I decided I was going to attempt to solo a 3-star Aerodactyl raid using only pokemon and resources that I gathered that day. The rules I set myself were simple: the pokemon had to be caught that day, with pokeballs and berries obtained that day, evolved using candy obtained that day, and if I used any resources like TMs or stardust those had to collected that day as well. The only "resource" I left myself with was my current level. (Important note: I play in a large city with a fairly active community, so I had plenty of pokemon spawns and pokestops to spin.)Before I started, I checked pokebattler.com to make sure what I was attempting was doable. Then, working with a friend, we decided I’d prioritize Geodude, Omanyte, and Aron, all of which were common spawns in our area due to the weather and the event. Because I am above level 30, I was able to catch max (and near-max) level wild pokemon, which is normally level 30 or level 35 with weather-boost. This was crucial! Additionally, I was also able to hop into two legendary raids which rewarded me with a total of 3 fast TMs and 2 charged TMs. These would prove to be a big help since candy for evolving two each of Geodude and Aron was tight! After four hours of hunting (2 in sunny and 2 in partly-cloudy), I had caught what I hoped would be my 6 pokemon and collected enough candy to evolve all of them. Getting the candy was actually the tricky bit; by the end I had plenty of high CP candidates that would (probably) have also worked. Here are the Pokemon I used (in the order I used them), their stats, and the resources I invested in each:PokemonCaught CPLevelIVsEvolved CPFast MoveCharge MoveResources UsedGeodude10683487 (14/10/15)2627Rock ThrowRock Blast1 Charge TM, 125 candiesGeodude10173280 (15/11/10)2525Rock ThrowStone Edge1 Fast TM, 1 Charge TM, 125 candiesOmanyte11353558 (11/9/6)2346Water GunRock Blast50 candiesOmanyte10692973 (14/6/13)2159Water GunHydro Pump50 candiesAron10963580 (13/13/10)2710Iron TailHeavy Slam125 candiesAron10593567 (10/12/8)2649Iron TailThunder1 Fast TM, 125 candiesOnce I had evolved everyone, I had to decide how to use my TMs. Both Geodude rolled Earthquake as their charge moves, so they got the two charged TMs. Luckily I didn’t have to worry about Omastar and Aggron because all of their charge moves are super effective against Aerodactyl. I used two fast TMs, one to change a Golem from Mud Slap to Rock Throw and the other to change an Aggron from Dragon Tail to Heavy Slam. Then I was ready. I found an Aerodactyl raid with only minimal driving around. The weather was partly-cloudy so I was feeling confident. The battle was joined and Aerodactyl had Hyper Beam which also helped. Then, with 21 second on the clock, my brand-spanking new pokemon carried the day! I ended up using only the first five pokemon. The Thunder Aggron didn’t even get to help! All in all, I’m really happy with how my personal challenge turned out. It just goes to show the potential of weather-boosts and events! None of these pokemon had perfect IVs and not all of them had ideal movesets but, given the constraints I set myself, I feel like I put together a pretty solid team and they got the job done!TL;DR: I was able to solo an Aerodactyl raid using only pokemon, candy, and TMs that I got in one day because the Adventure Week event is awesome and I had the right weather (and trainer level) to catch good counters between levels 30 and 35. via /r/TheSilphRoad https://ift.tt/2Jtfrj6
