"The Results of our 1st Community Day with our city being "All In" on Pokemon Go!"
#PokemonGO: Waukesha, WI has a really awesome Pokemon Go Community in our city and in the the SE Wisconsin Area.I made a post last week about my experience with our city wanting to go "all in" on the Pokemon GO community, it seemed to go over well with you guys (5k in upvotes)https://ift.tt/2PpNEUj wanted to come back and advise how everything went:I was able to get in touch with someone from our city who put me in touch with the city webmaster. The city did a dedicated post on their Facebook page advising of the Community Day in our downtown area. We then shared this post on our various Facebook pages, discord pages, etc...We had around 300+ people in our downtown area exploring and catching. It was a balmy 31 degrees and windy; its a low turn out (we would normally get upwards of 500-800 people), but it was cold, windy, and Cyndaquil wasn't super exciting for people....That being said:We had a trainer work with a local business (Bernie's Taproom) to offer specials during and after Community Day (hot chocolate, drinks, $1.00 pizzas, etc...) They put a message board outside welcoming players ("Bernie's Gym" is because they have a pokegym attached to the mural on the building). This bar is a place where maybe 2-4 people are at 1pm on a Saturday and they might get 4-6 people early afternoons-if they're lucky. They had over 100 people come in and out before/during/after the event. After Community Day was over, 75 trainers came in for several hours and bought food/drinks while we traded pokemon...and did a massive Giratina raid....from the bar. The bar was impressed with the turnout (to say the least) and will be sponsoring future specials during CD.I organized a food drive for our local food pantry and donated a minivan load of food/diapers to our local food pantry after the event. We had several raids of over 100 people during the event (nothing is more fun that 20 level 40 players taking down a Buizel.)I contacted my city after the event and advised how great this went. They have a meeting of our downtown business district this week. She is making up a flyer for them to explain what Pokemon Go is, what Community Day is, and how businesses can support the players. I am going to contact her as soon as Niantic advises of the next date(s).Attaching a couple shots of the event for you all.https://ift.tt/2QD6nZl seemed like from the feed back to my original post that many cities/towns are negative on players. That's really too bad-I play Pokemon Go, I have disposable income and I LIKE supporting local (small) businesses; seems like a no-brainer to me to support a player base coming to an area with businesses who I assume are in business to make money. The best way to get YOUR city/downtown involved is to find a contact in your city government/parks department/business development committee and let a local business (or two) know that there is an event and if they invite players in with special deals they can make some money.I hope YOUR community day in your community was fun!TL/DR: Work with a local business and your local government to encourage players to shop downtown before/during/after Community Days--it can be amazing. via /r/pokemongo https://ift.tt/2Pm63Bw
