"Mega evolutions by type #3. Water."

#PokemonGO: DisclaimerThe stats of mega evolutions are calculated in accordance to the current formulas for transferring stats from the main game series to Pokemon GO (i.e., they are only approximate and may change slightly in the actual release). Movepool of a mega evolution is the same as the movepool of their previous form. All simulations were carried out for Pokemon level 40, 15/15/15, extreme weather, 10% friendship bonus.LegendIntroductionThe topic of today's conversation is water type mega evolutions. The game features 5 mega evolutions of this type: Mega Sharpedo, Mega Gyarados, Mega Blastoise, Mega Swampert, Mega Slowbro.Among them, it is worth highlighting Mega Slowbro, which attack does not allow it to compete with any other water type mega evolutions (actually it cannot compete even with ordinary Pokemon). However, this does not mean that Mega Slowbro is completelly worthless, it has a potential to find its niche in PvP. For this reason, Slowbro results will not be presented in this post.Among all the other water type mega evolutions, all but Mega Sharpedo have stats sufficient for both "tanking" and damage dealing.Stats of water type mega evolutionsWater type Pokemon deal more damage to Fire, Rock and Ground Pokemon. So these mega evolutions can be potentially useful against Entei, Regirock, Groudon, Terrakion, Reshiram, Heatran, and Landorus.vs FireThere are 4 fire type bosses in the game at the moment: Entei, Reshiram, Moltres, Heatran. However, Moltres has double vulnerability to rock type, Heatran has double vulnerability to ground type, and Reshiram has no vulnerability to water type, so water Pokemon cannot compete with the others against these bosses.Against Entei, a result above 55% damage can be considered as a good result (this corresponds to a confident duo).Water type vs EnteiThe best Pokemon against Entei are as follows:Entei top countersWater type mega evolutions result:Water type vs EnteiAs you can see, Blastoise and Swampert are far far ahead thanks to the Hydro Cannon. At the same time Blatoise is ranked higher than Swampert due to its higher attack. In general, both of these Pokemon are head and shoulders above existing Pokemon and take the Entei raids damage level to a whole new level. The other two "contenders for the medal" fail to cope with the task of surpassing the current raid tops. The main reason for this is that they have a bad charge move, Hydro Pump . (Spoiler!) It is even more regrettable, because the situation wont't change for the subsequent bosses.vs RockThe main rock type bosses are Terrakion and Regirock. The first one has a relatively high attack and is a "damage dealer", and the second one has an extremely high defense and could be considered as a "tank".Water Pokemon must overcome the 33.4% damage "bar" against Regirock, which will allow them to defeat this boss in a trio (albeit with a great difficulty)Against Terrakion, our water type evos will have to compete with Mewtwo itself and overcome the bar of at least 60% damage.Water type vs RegirockThe best Pokemon against Entei are as follows:Regirock top countersWater type mega evolutions result:Water type vs RegirockRegirock's high defense does not allow to deal much damage, and only Blastoise and Swampert reach the given damage level again. Sharpedo and Gyarados can't even touch the favorites in terms of damage.Mega Blatoise and Mega Swapert once again show outstanding results and increase the maximum possible damage agains Regirock to almost 40%, while the average damage finally allows to confidently defeat the legendary golem in a trio with a huge time remainging. It is also worth noting that Blatoise's results against Regirock are slightly worse than those of Swapert, because Regirock has Zap Cannon in its arsenal. Zap Cannon obliterates Blatoise, which has a weakness to electricity.Water type vs TerrakionThe best Pokemon against Terrakion are as follows:Terrakion top countersWater type mega evolutions result:Water type vs TerrakionAnd... Against Terrakion, none of the water type mega evolutions are able to outclass Metwo. This is not surprising, because Metwo is one of the best Pokemon of all generations, having one of the most imbalanced charge moves in the game. Still, Blastoise and Swampert show outstanding results as for the water type, which was almost never used in raids before.vs GroundThere are 2 ground type bosses in the game: Groudon and Landorus Incarnate Frome. However, Landorus Incarnate Frome (and it's Therian Frome) has a double vulnerability to ice, so water Pokemon cannot compete with other Pokemon against these bosses.Groudon is one of the most difficult bosses in the game: it has impressive stats and moveset, capable of dealing super effective damage to all Pokemon that can counter him. Therefore, against Groudon, Pokemon with a good health and defence show the best average results. Damage above 37% against Groudon can be considered as a high damage.Water type vs GroudonGroudon top countersWater type mega evolutions result:Water type vs GroudonGrodon is a boss against which the water type mega evolutions unleash their full potential and once again take damage indicators to the next level. Blastoise's damage is so great that with a favorable boss moveset, it makes it possible to beat the boss in a duo. Swampert is slightly behind again, but not as much as Gyarados and Sharpedo, which are unable to surpass even the current tops. Conclusions (TL; DR)Mega Blastoise and Mega Swampert are the meta defining Pokemon, they inscrease the damage against some of the bosses to completely new heights and allow you to beat them with much more ease. The credit for this lies with the outstanding parameters of these Pokemon and Hydro Cannon, which literally flushes the bosses from the screen. Mega Blastoise will certainly be the water-type king until Primal Kyogre with Origin Pulse is introduced to the game.Mega Gyarados and Mega Sharpedo are much worse off. Despite the higher attack stat, Hydro Pump does not allow the potential of these Pokemon to be unleashed, so on average they remain from the leaders by a terrible 5-10%. The situation could be changed by adding some low energy cos charge moves into these Pokemon's moveset, for example, Water Pulse, which could increase the potential of these Pokemon.Previous posts:#1 - Bug type: https://ift.tt/3ffxgy4 - Dark type:https://ift.tt/3g4mlZ4 via /r/TheSilphRoad https://ift.tt/2CNBjV8
