"Dumb things we did as kids."

I've been watching a lot of competitive Pokémon recently and that triggered something in my brain;I was watching a trick room team do it's thing when I remembered back to when I was 8. I had just received Pokémon Red version and I had no idea about stats; I honestly thought to out speed the other Pokémon I had pick a move as fast as I could... As you could imagine I would get frustrated when ever I lost a "speed battle" only until way later when an older friend of mine told me about attack, defense etc. did I come to understand how to actually play.
