"So I revisted Pokémon X and Y..."
In anticipation of Scarlet and Violet, I've been playing through the older games to relish in some sweet, sweet nostalgia. However, after playing through X, I honestly felt drained after sinking 40+ hours into it.In my opinion, X and Y are the most run-of-the-mill, half-baked Pokémon games in the entire franchise, even beyond Sword and Shield. Everything outside the visuals (which still hold up pretty well even today) feels like it only partially reached its potential, especially the story. One point I will give the games is diversity. You can play through the story with TONS of different team combinations giving X and Y some replay value. However, it doesn't really matter when I don't care about what's happening in the story or the characters which, for the most part, are very one note. I thought the rival was pretty interesting but outside of that, your other friends in your group amount to just "the dancing one," "the smart one," and "the ditzy one."And don't get me started on Team Flare. Yes, Lysandre's goals are very gruesome and dark but there's practically no buildup to it. He just calls people on their phones and says "lol ending the world now k bye."Hell, it even took until ORAS to fully realize the potential of Mega Evolution and did a much, MUCH better job integrating that into the story than X and Y, the games that introduced the concept. This is just one schlub's opinion on the games, and I don't judge anyone for enjoying X and Y. But man, when the next pair of games come out after Scarlet and Violet, I'm definitely skipping X and Y when I do another playthrough of the older games. via /r/pokemon https://ift.tt/UQxlIpM
