"[Fun Analysis] Is Meltan really a steel(-type) pokémon?"

#PokemonGO: I hope I didn't make a totally stupid miscalculation and make a fool out of myself now.Yesterday, someone in my local community asked what metal Meltans body may be made of ('that steel-type pokémon looks way too small to be made of steel'), so I did the math:Known data about Meltan:Size: 0.2 mWeight: 8 kgScreenshot 1: Metan front viewScreenshot 2: Meltan side viewThe first screenshot is the best front view of Meltan I could find. As you can see, the width across flats of the nut is approx. 130 mm, the inner diameter is approx. 80 mm (later calculated with 85 mm to compensate the thread). The depth of the nut is approx. 70 mm accoring to the second screenshot (taken from the second teaser video, the best side view I could find). These numbers fit fairly good with the dimensions of a M90 hexagon nut. The height of a nut of this size is 72 mm, that's what I will use for the calculations. With all these dimensions known, you can calculate the volume of the head-nut: 645215.76 mm³ or 645.2 cm³. As the eye is floating, it aparently doesn't weight anything and is therefore not considered for the calculation 😛The color of the nut suggests that it is made of brass with a density of 8.73 g/cm³ (Bronze would be possible, too, but it has nearly the same density, therefore it doesn't make a difference). That results in a weight of roughly 5.6 kg.Now the body. We now know that it's weight is approx. 2.4 kg (8 kg - 5.6 kg). The fact that it's not solid is not considered here (I don't even know how I could fit that into the calculation. Suggestions?).On the first screenshot you can see that it's width is approx. the same size as the inner diameter of the nut. To compensate the irregular shape of the body and easier calculation, let's say it's a cylinder (with no tail) with a diameter of 75 mm. The height of the body is 70 mm, so the body has a volume of 309190 mm³ or 309.19 cm³. That combined with the weight (2.4 kg) results in a density of 7.7 g/cm³. Steel has a density of 7.85 g/cm³.Conclusion:It is absolutely possible that the body of the steel type pokémon Meltan is made of steel. Could be something else though, the body dimensions are only roughly estimated and there are enough other metals that have a density in the range of 7 g/cm³ to 9 g/cm³ (possible range if you only change the diameter of the cylinder a little bit). But someone at The Pokémon Company did his homework while creating Meltan, it's body dimension are definitely not complete nonsense. via /r/TheSilphRoad https://ift.tt/2AsuoMX
