"Can friendly rivals be rivals?"

ok before y'all read on know that this is a vent soo....😂So, in this community, as a whole, we have major flaws, undoubtedly. And one of my pet peeves with this fandom is how too many people think friendly rivals aren't rivals; one comment in particular on a video I watched said : "friendly rivals aren't rivals. The Douche-bag rivals are rivals, because tHeY mAkE yOu FeEl GoOd AfTeR bEaTiNg ThEm!!" Now this lowkey triggered me😅. The definition of rival is: "A person or thing competing with another for the same objective or for superiority in the same field of activity."Nothing in there about having to be a douche! All the named rivals in the Pokemon games are working towards a similar goal. Having an opinion about which rivals you like/hate is one thing and I am not attacking that. But if you think that friendly rivals aren't rivals, then please know that Pokemon and Nintendo do know what they're doing when they call Trevor, Bianca, Tierno, Hau etc. rivals.So whaddya think?
