"Honest question: how can I reasonably hunt for a shiny Geodude?"

#PokemonGO: This gets posted nearly daily, but this time I’m asking for a reasonable answer. How can I shiny hunt for Kanto Geodude? All I see in the wild is the Alolan version. Moreover, the Kanto version doesn’t nest anymore. My biome doesn’t spawn the Kanto version; people in desert areas have the exact opposite problem. See the dilemma?
