"Why you should check out the "Pokemon-Festival of Champions" Manga"

Hello everyone, I recently came across this manga, after searching for other decent Pokemon ones since the only one that I could really ever get into was Pokemon Adventures (the official manga).I saw some other discussions regarding FoC, so I decided to give it a shot, and wow my mind was blown on how well the creator Seijun Tombo depicted the story, and characters. The world felt even more alive then the official Manga.Basically, the story is a retelling of the main characters of Pallet Town (Red, Green, & Blue) who decide they will take on the Indigo league challenge to decide who is the most powerful trainer. However, things get quite interesting with the way the creator does things as it basically skips straight ahead to the Indigo league challenge where not only the Elite 4 reside, but strong trainers from all over the world (even from other generations, such as Karen from Johto, Steven from Hoenn, etc), and the manga references past events that happen in the game so we can see how our main characters have developed to build their teams and relationships with other characters.Without further a due, these are some of the reasons why I believe a good amount of Pokemon fans would enjoy this Doujin.ArtThe art is simply breathtaking, and the attention to detail for the battles is done incredibly well. Here are some examples of the art.Red poseBlue vs SkylaKaren's Umbreon vs Green's AlakazamRed vs GiovanniRed vs Giovanni 2StoryThe story itself is very enjoyable. The author is good at filling in spots that were originally left as mysteries in the game. For example, I'm sure a lot of people have heard of the conspiracy theory that Green's Raticate died which is why he was visiting the Lavender Town tower where dead pokemon are buried? This is actually a major plot point as Green's Raticate did die and caused Green to become very cold as he was very close with Raticate, and his battle against Team Rocket, and his negligence as a naive trainer at the time killed one of his precious friends-which greatly affected his Psyche.Greens Raticate deadI never thought a Raticate could ever make me so sad lol. What do you mean they're all in top form? I can at least make them faintThis doesn't just affect Green however, it affects his entire team-another impressive thing that the Manga does well. It shows what not just the trainers of the world see and feel, but how their Pokemon also feel. His Eevee becomes depressed due to Raticate dying, and at that point Green decides to trade away Eevee since she no longer has the will power to fight anymore. Green gives it to Blue, despite Eevee being in a very fragile and depressed state.Eevee depressedGreen deciding to forget about Raticate and calling him patheticRed angry at GreenThere was quite a bit of emotional buildup to the scenes, and not just with Green. Red and the story of how he acquires his Marowak is pretty tragic too and fitting for the games (Cubones mom being killed by team rocket, so Red adopts him and decides to help Cubone get revenge against them). In fact, the story has a sufficient amount of tragic scenes and seems to hit a bit closer to home in regards to how realistic the Pokemon world in this manga feels, and how relationships are done. Each Pokemon the trainers get have a proper back story to them so its quite entertaining to see how they pull through for their trainers when they battle.CharactersThe characters are done really well, and even though the manga isn't too far in, we already see quite a bit of back stories for a bunch of them done with decent detail. Some of them are nice featured cameos as well such as Gold who is still just a young (and snobby lol) child who is witnessing the tournament with his mom at the stands.Gold sees RedThe main trio as kids watching the leagueCharacters like Karen, aren't just their with lip service about how you should win using just your favorite Pokemon. Her entire story with the dark typing is quite sad, so it makes sense as to why she genuinely believes a trainer should win with the Pokemon they love, rather then just the "best" pokemon.Karen's famous quoteOverallIf your in the mood for a good Pokemon manga, i would definitely recommend this one. I'm honestly just shocked at how unknown it is, and want it to be more known since i believe its definitely got great potential and was done with a lot of love from its creator-who you can tell has a great understanding of the franchise. The only real issue with the manga is that the creator takes a GOOD while before uploading the new chapters (About 5 or so months) since its a fan made project for him, but the chapters are at least pretty long-some of them nearing 100 pages per chapter so the read and content is still worth it. For anyone wondering where to read it, i used Mangadex.org. via /r/pokemon https://ift.tt/30WqiKi
