"There has never been a perfect Pokémon game, but nearly all the elements of perfection have been implemented at least one time or another."

While the games continue to introduce welcome innovations, they don’t also retain features of previous games that should have been considered essential. Off the cuff, I’ll outline what I think an ideal entry in the series would look like, using characteristics that have been implemented in at least one main series game.Independence (Gens 1 and 2): In recent games you can hardly ever enter a new area or leave a gym without someone telling you what to do, it just makes me wish I was playing Crystal instead.Exploration (Gens 2, 4, and 5): Gens 1 and 3 had some, Gen 6 and onward have almost none. There’s nothing cooler in Pokémon than exploring an area solely out of curiosity and finding a special Pokémon you can’t get anywhere else or else running into a really powerful trainer.Improved breeding mechanics (Gen 6 onward)Easily viewing EVs and IVs (Gen 7 onward)No version exclusive legendaries (Gens 1 and 2): This didn’t really become a big problem until Gen 5 onward though since you could get every legendary in Emerald and Platinum. I like having to trade with other versions to complete the dex, but that shouldn’t be required for Pokémon that can only be obtained once per game.Legendary Pokémon outside of the main story (Gens 1-5): I don’t like the game dragging the player toward the legendaries. This doesn’t mean that they can’t have a story, but it should be a story that the player controls. A good example would be Mewtwo in Gen 1. The player finds those journal entries about it in the mansion, but has to use their own initiative to actually find it.Battle Frontier (Gens 3 and 4)No reliance on HMs (Gen 7 onward)Battle Frontier (Gens 3 and 4)Transfer capabilities available at launch (Gens 2, 4, and 5)Simplified bulk transfers (Gen 6 onward): While it is frustrating that you couldn’t transfer to recent gens for the first few months after release, at least you didn’t have to play mini games to bring your old collection to the new games six at a time.National Dex (Gens 1 - 6): I’d go as far to say that merely being able to obtain every Pokémon like in Gen 7 is insufficient. I like the game to acknowledge when I obtain all the Pokémon currently in existence. Is there anything you would add? Disagree with any of my picks? What features would you like to see that haven’t been in any game yet? via /r/pokemon https://ift.tt/3fDXrS7
