"“It’s a kids game”"

“Pokémon is a kids game” is something I hear all the time placed against valid criticisms about how the newer games are getting easier every generation. I understand that Pokémon has never been a difficult game and I’m not asking for it to become one, but I think we should look back at the past to help guide our answer.Pokémon has always been a kids game. Red and Blue were made for kids, Platinum and Emerald and B2W2 were designed with kids in mind, and they remain beloved by the community. Many of us played them as kids and loved them. To suggest that you can’t have a kids game without making it mind-numbingly easy and handholdy is honestly just an insult to the intelligence of kids - it’s not as if kids today are suddenly dumber than ever before. Finally, I’ve seen this as justification when GameFreak removes player options that make the game just a little bit harder. In my view this makes the least sense, because they’re exactly that - options. Legitimate criticism of GameFreak’s removal of toggle-able exp share, avoidable friendship boosts, and most recently >! removal of set mode !< is met with this excuse. And to be clear, I don’t mind the options, they’re good to have, but stop using the excuse of “it’s a kids game” to deflect legitimate criticism. via /r/pokemon https://www.reddit.com/r/pokemon/comments/yrii1r/its_a_kids_game/?utm_source=ifttt
