"Is there a better way to do Community Day? I think the current formula is unsustainable."

#PokemonGO: Community Days are great fun and I really enjoy going out for them. However there are some troubling problems with them that disenfranchise certain players and may even damage long term game balance, especially now that PVP is a consideration. These issues seem easy enough to resolve without sacrificing the magic of Community Day, so please bear with me as I identify these problems and suggest a few relatively simple changes to fix them all at once.TimeframeI get to participate in most CDs because I don't work during weekends, but not everyone is so lucky. While a minority, significant numbers of players wind up working right through most Community Days and don't get to enjoy any of the benefits. The extremely limited timeframe is great for making sure players who can play will see their raid buddies and/or meet new ones; at the same time, players who consistently miss the events wind up with a significant dearth of exclusive moves and inevitably feel as if they've missed out.Reward BalanceBoosted exp, stardust, and hatch rates are nice, but those rewards are always acceptable because they don't continue to change the game after the event ends. Community Day Exclusive Moves, on the other hand, have the potential to separate the player base out into PVP tiers of "players who have a Free Saturday lifestyle" and those who don't.Over the long term, this could create significant PVP disadvantages for entire lifestyles or even classes of people. Even worse, these disadvantages can only be removed by finding a generous trade partner or managing to make it to several of these magic 3-hour events, which is exactly the requirement that disadvantaged them in the first place. It can't be overcome through diligent gameplay or even microtransactions.ChangesTwo small additions can fix all of this, in my opinion. But before I list them, I'd like to hear your ideas too. Don't think the timeframe is an issue at all? Tell me why! Have your own ideas for solving this problem? Share 'em here!Addition 1: Community Day Special ResearchPlayers who log in any time during the day of CD should receive a simple, 1-page, Special Research mission. Like other limited time Special Research, the player can complete this on their own time once they receive it. This gives a small bonus for players already participating in CD but a huge consolation prize to most players who can't attend. The quests and rewards should be pretty easy and straightforward, consider these examples -Catch or Hatch 5 [CD species] - Reward: Encounter with [CD species] at CD shiny rateTransfer 5 [CD species] - Reward: 20 [CD species] CandySpin 20 Pokestops - Reward: 1,500 StardustClear all quests - Reward: 15 Ultra Balls, 1 Incense, 1 Event TMAddition 2: the Event TMAwarded for completing the CD Special Research, players will be able to obtain no more than one of these per month. The TM has a simple function: It can teach a Community Day move to any fully-evolved Community Day species who has already had their Community Day.Because distribution of these TMs would be so strictly tied to CD dates, they only afford one extra CD move to players who can already participate. This is a trivial difference to a player who evolved 3+ during CD, but it also gives them a chance to pick up an old CD exclusive they missed. For a player who missed the entire event, it means they can still get the newest CD move, even if they only get one.And did I mention that this would also enable CD moves to be placed on already-evolved hundos, or shinies that you didn't have the candy to evolve during CD? Of course, it would take a whole year of Community Days to get just 12 of these TMs, so it seems impossible to abuse. Just to be safe, Niantic could make Pokemon with TMed event moves become untradable, so people can't farm the TMs on alt accounts.TLDR: One new TM, a new metadata in the gamemaster for "Event TM move," and a recurring Special Research that gives one away each CD. That's my entire idea. I wrote all of that crap just to pitch a Community Day TM. Thanks for coming to my TED talk. via /r/TheSilphRoad http://bit.ly/2Rmkerr
